Any Help Would Be Appreciated
I have an old oil painting, but it is on what appears to be a smooth, white stone. The stone/canvas has been "textured" by intentional scratches. It is of a little blonde haired girl, with a deep burgandy head band, wearing a dark green dress;etched in lines horizontally on the top of the dress and vertical lines on the bottom of the dress. She has a white blouse under the dress and the sleeves are a smooth texture. She has vivid blue eyes and one hand is reaching back to her shoulder and the other is near her mouth, with her pinky finger touching/in her mouth. She is leaning on a gold colored table and it has what might be green beans laying on the table, and there appears to be a burgandy bowl hanging on the wall above the beans on the table. The background is dark green, but in a different texture than her dress. Her skin is even textured with lines and painted a skin tone;although the lines appear to have traces of black too. The frame looks very old also. There is no glass covering the portrait. The back of the painting has black paper, but there is enough of a little tear, to see the stone canvas, that looks approximatly 1/4" thick. There is a place on the black paper, where the identifying label has been tore off. Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated! I have never seen anything like this; the girl's eyes look like they are constantly following you. The girl is dressed like a peasant girl.
Frank Howards First Blossom of Spring
I have a litho of Frank Howard "First Blossom of Spring " There is a tag on the back of the frame that says 264 copyright 1886 by Miller Luchsinger & Co New York E. 1900 .... It shows a young girl with a flower basket holding the reins of a pony alongside a women also with a basket . The back ground has a river with bridge with two people on it, a house with barn and another women by some sheep .
Can anyone tell me where this location was and anything about the artis . I would like to include the info on the back side of the lithograph .
Should I be insuring this piece of art ? Marco
I have an Original William Henry Chandler Pastel
I am in possession of a signed Chandler pastel in its original frame/glass (excellent condition!) – approximately 29” x 16”. This piece hung in my great aunt’s home in Connecticut. When she passed away it was put in a closet in my parent’s home. My father passed away in October 2011 and just prior to his passing I came into possession of it. It is a stream scene with mountains in background, teepee, beached canoe, campfire with a figure inside the teepee. There is also writing on the back of the frame that I cannot quite make out except for the word “pastel.” I am trying to find out how much it is worth - or where, who I go to that is trustworthy. I live in Richmond, Virginia.
unsigned Chandler pastel (?)
Is it at all possible to have an unsigned Chandler pastel painting? The one I came across depicts a landscape with one tree, a pond w/ a small cottage across the waterway. I can find absolutely no signature. I brought it to a reputable dealer who alluded the painting was one of his, and that it was a "Hudson Valley School" work
I have a Chandler Pastel in the original wood, swirly style frame, that is painted gold. The Pastel is of a Country Scene with a winding dirt road and trees with different fall colors. Birch trees are a common subject throughout the scene. It is signed at the bottom left hand corner in black chalk, Chandler. This Pastel was given to my Grandmother as a gift, from her parents, for her Wedding,on December 26,1922. Grandmother was born in Lille,France,on November 25,1900 and moved to the United States with her parents and other sibblings in 1902,just before Christmas. Her Father, went back to France to look for work from time to time between 1909 and 1914. He lodged in New York and New Jersey as he waited for transportation to France. He moved back to the U.S.A. for good in 1914,just before W.W.I. My Grandmother gave this Pastel to my Mother,in 1959 when she moved to Florida,to hang in the new house that my father built in 1957. It hung on the hallway wall of my parents home leading to the bedrooms for 50 years and survived 7 children, who were also raised in a Christian home. My Father passed away in October 1995, and my Mother moved out of the house in November of 2009 and gave the Pastel to me to hang in my new house that I built in 2004. It is hanging on my hallway wall, in its own cove as you come into my home, for all to see and enjoy. I will take a picture and post it on this site when the proper time of year comes into play, as to coordinate the theme of this Pastel with the time of year and to honor the most talented Pastel Artist of the 20th Century,William Henry Chandler.
Value of W H Chandler's Art Work
William Henry Chandler (1854-1928) was America's formost pastel artist. Since the original pastels were painted by the artist himself and his hired painters, his original art work (mostly pastel(chalk) paintings) does not have great value compared with other same time artists. His good kept original pastel paintings are in the range of $150-$400. I purchased one original pastel painting (framed and signed) in an auction recently about $185. A collection of his works can be found at: • The Pastel Museum Gallery
Pastel of woman, man, child
I have an original Pastel that says Chandler on it, but it is not a landscape or still life of fruit, but of a man holding high a chair that looks like he is going to throw it at a woman with a child hiding behind the woman. Did Chandler ever do any kind of pastel like this. Very Large In ornate antique frame.
Hi... I came across a print behind another print in an obvious old frame. it is obviouslt vintage of the mountains (snow capped)with trees and a waterfall into a lake.
The right hand signature appears to be chandler with a line under the d&l. Not sure if this pertains to William Chandler or not... but it looks like some of his other prints. Any help?
William Henry Chandler pastel
I recently bought a picture at a garage sale for $50 and what I liked about it was the ornate frame. It needed a new duster so I took it into a framing gallery. I got a call back from them saying they were having difficulty putting the picture back as it was smudging the glass and thought it was an original pastel. I did some research and found the picture to be an original by Chandler, signed in the bottom left hand corner. It is called Indian Encampment and I am curious to know in what year he created it. Can anyone help me with some history of the picture?
I have a framed painting with note on back of frame showing to be 12x48 pastel #4093 with a lower right-side signature by Chandler.

William Chandler "Sunday in the Country"
I am trying to locate info for a relative of mine that has this painting from a great great grandma or great great great grandma. We are trying to find the year it possibly painted and an approximate value.
I was given years ago, a painting by Chandler. It looks like chalk (as you can tell, I'm not an artist), but it is stunning and the frame is an original. It is a home or cabin sitting on the waters edge, large trees surround it and it might be a Spring evening. The water is glistering from a full moon. I intend to research but any information would be welcomed.
William Henry Chandler Signature
The bio says his students signed for him on occasion. His sig is on both bottom leaft and bottom right. Did students sign on one side and the artist on the other side? Any way to tell his signature versus a students'? Any info about the sig and or artist would be helpful. Thanks.

Chandler pastel "A Winter Solitude"
I believe I have a Wm Henry Chandler pastel print, #283 copyrighted 1893 by Muller, Luchsinger & Co., NY. It is entitled "A Winter Solitude". It is a winter scene, bare trees on each side of stone bridge with a wide stream running beneath. Quite lovely, although it appears to have some water damage around the edges. It came from my great grandmothers house in Hardwick, MA back in the 1930's. It's in a very old beautifully designed leafy wooden frame, with a split wood backing held with nails. It appears to have an original signature in the lower left corner, but since it is a print I am not sure. Any information would be apprecaited. Thank you.
Chandler fruit pastel
I have what appears to be a william henry chandler pastel approx. 25-1/2 x 17-1/2 and then surrounded by a 3" frame. I cannot find a date, it is signed in the lower right "Chandler" and backed with two pieces of wood. It is of fruit spilling out of a wicker basket...purple grapes with lots of leaves, pears, peaches and green apples. Upon looking through a magnifying glass, the surface of the work appears sort of granulated. It is my understanding that the chalk he used was from France and then mixed with glue and sand. Does anyone have any idea of the origin or name of this work?

Title of Chandler
I have a signed Chandler --three men in a boat with moon shining on lake/river.
Cottage on each side. Dark and intriguing. How do I find the title?
Does anyone know the titles of these Chandlers?
I have two Chandler pastels - one is a scene from somewhere in the Hudson Valley in NY I presume; the other is of a sloop or cutter sailing on the ocean.
Any info appreciated --- Thank you!
Just bought my first chandler and it is a beautiful ocean scene.
I came upon a print signed chandler--no first name, just chandler--appears to be the right circa. Is there a sample of william henry chandler's signature? did he just sign chandler or first/last name etc.?
William Henry Chandler
I own many of his pastels. There are always some being sold on eBay. Prints have little value. The pastel paintings generally sell from $100 to $1000. Seems most end up in the $250-400 price range. I've seen some closer to $2000, but they are the huge ones with fine original frames, and in perfect condition.
They tend to sell for more at auctions than at eBay. But then the seller gets less as well.
They are increasingly popular. I have one of his "blue ones" and would love another.
And yes, he did still f life paintings of fish.
Frank's Chandler Oil Painting
Frank, your oil painting was obviously not created by William H. Chandler since he died in 1928.
Has anyone ever seen a pastel by Chandler of dead fish? I have a 20 by 10 signed pastel with three fish hanging by line. The third fish is tucked in beside the other two. It is different shades of green. They could be pike???Could anyone tell me anything about this artwork? Thankyou
Might these be by William Henry Chandler?

signature of william Henry Chandler
I have a picture by him but am not sure if the signature is right.
I recently acquired a beautiful pastel drawing signed Chandler. After researching the artist I am certain it is by William Chandler. It is small, approxiamtely 12 x 24. The picture is that of a tree near water with boats and farm house in the back. It is typical of Chandlers style. The frame is old, looks handmade with gold-type fancy wooden spirals. I found it at a Goodwill store in the US for a few dollars. If you have any information to share on this artist, please contact me. Thank You. CH
I have a painting singed CHANDLER it is of the ocean .Waves crashing on the capes birds in the air and sale boats off in the disstance.A windy day by the looks off things.its about 8 inches hight by 18 inches long with a 2-3 mat around it,AND HAS A VERY NICE 2 INCH DARK WOOD FRAME.anyway just going for any info it was a gift to my grandparants in 1921.
William Henry Chandler
I have 5 pastel landscapes by Chandler, including one which was a wedding present to my grandparents. I have been told that Chandler had affiliations on both sides of the US/Cdn border and that he did pastels in brown tones and some in blues. The blues are much rarer, and worth 3-4 times the value of the browns. The browns in vintage frames are each worth in the neighborhood of $5-700.US for antique value.
