J. Arnold ship paintings
J. Arnold was a relative. He lived from 8/20/1882 - 3/3/1969. He was born in England. He worked on sailing vessels, roaming the world from age 12 until age until age 25. He then immigrated to the U.S. in 1914. He then began painting as he felt he could depict in watercolor and oil the sea and ships he knew so well. I have 15 of these paintings and am looking for a gallery to display them.

I love the nautical paintings of J. Arnold. I own one titled "Off Cape May". I wish I could find more info on the artist. I seems that all his paintings were done in the 1950s, somewhere in the mid Atlantic area. What does the J. stand for. John or Jay. Seems that on one really knows. Help
Ariel by J Arnold
I was extraordinarily lucky to stumble on a John Popeye Arnold at a Goodwill in Sarasota, FL. It is large, 36" x 24" in a drift wood-y type frame. It is called Ariel. I managed to snag it for $39.99!! They had just put it out that morning. Because I live in Florida, I have a nautical theme in my house (who doesn't??)and the Arnold is my favorite by far. I have read these posts on this site and am thrilled no one else has written in about an Arnold called Ariel. Having said that, if any nautical buffs know about a ship called Ariel I would love to hear from you!

J Arnold "Macquarie"
I have an oil painting by J Arnold "Macquarie". It is a 2'(H) by 3'(W) oil painting, L to R a 3 or 4 masted ship with a ghost ship on the horizon, purchased in NYC around 1943. It is signed By J Arnold and looks more like the work of Jay Arnold than that of John Arnold, both who are known for marine sailing ships. Does anyone know how John Arnold signed his paintings and would "Macquarie" be one of his paintings, or would it be Jay Arnold's? Thanks

John Arnold had previously been referred to as John Popeye Arnold and a 2/3/05 auction at Christies of maritime art shows an artwork at lot 229. I have one work of his called Yankee Whalers that includes the whaler Charles W. Morgan among four ships at sea. The Morgan is a whaler in the museum at Mystic Seaport anc you can board it.
This painter made a wonderful rendition of the sail ship the famous "Joseph Conrad" was he was in Baltimore.
I find Arnold's works equivalant to the work of L. Papaluca, and John Luzzo.
John Arnold XX cntury
Was he also referred to as Jay Arnold; and signed his paintings J-Arnold. see Christie's sales Dec 2000 lot 322.
