New England Harbor Gloucister No# 1 and New England Harbor No# 3 Rockport. Like to have some history on the John Haymson paintings.
I have read thru so many of these posts and believe (hope) my set of 2 John Haymson artworks are real. I looked at them through a jewelers loupe and they are very solid in the black areas. Recovered from nursing home estate. The pair are signed but not named as so many others are... at least not where I can see without taking apart the paper backing and removing them from the frame. The backing paper is stamped Franklin Picture 9130 on BOTH.
Each are city scenes, one of skyscrapers and a statue of a lion - the other mostly one building. Both very tall and narrow. Ink and watercolor or lithographic prints with pops of turquoise and red.

I have an old watercolor of the New York Stock Exchange Building with a bustling crowd and a few 50's style cars. Signed by John Haymson but not date. Framed at the Framing Guild 863 Madison Ave. Phone is spelled out BUtterfield 8-8337.
Original frame, matting. Anyone that knows of this artwork. Please post.
John Haymson, San Francisco cable cars.
Dee, If you examine the black inked areas of the artwork and you notice a matrix of dots (pixels) its screened. If the color is solid it MAY be original. A 10x power loupe would be helpful to determine. In the event the inked areas appear solid take artwork to have valued by an expert.

Haymson watercolor and ink.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to tell or where to go to see if the art pieces I have by John Haymson entitled "Central Park Lake" is an original or copy. This was an art piece I inherited from my aunt who lived in New York City. I have not seen any other copies of this piece in my search so was wondering if I actually could have a one of a kind piece of his work. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Is it an Original or a copy?
Haymson water color of
Mcarthur Park Las Angelas
I am not sure if this a copy or an original. It looks like an original.
The picture is 22x18. It is in a matted frame
and it looks as if there are condensation stains on the underneath side of the glass. It has a # 1 on the back of the paper covering the back of the frame.
It looks as though it may have been mounted in the frame while some of the
water color was still wet, whic would seem odd for an original. Also I read where it was a common practice to use water colors on top of one of his prints. How whould I know for sure.

Authenticating John Haymson
I have been authenticating Haymson paintings for near to 30 years now and it isn't always easy convincing the owners that they don't,indeed, have a very valuable original painting! Haymson prints were quite often made with a coarse paper and to confuse matters more, they were,on many occasions, done in a "mixed media" format. The outlines would be applied in a Heavy and Raised black ink on the coarse paper and the color applied, sometimes by hand, with actual water colors! And,no-the copyright info in the corners is no sure sign either-they were not always applied in every case! I have handled and owned several oil paintings of his, artist proofs, numbered prints, etc and have seen just about every media format you can imagine and then some. Some owners will even become enraged and Insist that they do, indeed, own a "real" painting and carry on like you insulted their grandmothers or something! The superb quality even routinely deceives established auction houses, the non-specialized art dealers and many many more and you will see thousands of pieces being offered for sale by these good meaning but not too expert outfits as "absolutely originals". But, the bottom line is, of course-do you like your piece? If you do,then keep, admire and cherish them as they were intended to be! If you are looking for an investment grade piece, it may be best to stick with the oils of Haymson-they are, nearly without debate-easily recognized for their originality and will almost certainly continue to increase in value over the years.
I have three pictures with John Haymson and the title of the picture. They are rather big - roughly 35 inches by 17 inches. One is The Brick House Tavern Williamsburg. One is Bruton Parich Church Williamsburg. And the third one is Governor's Palace Williamsburg. We bought them in 1998 at some thrift store. . . I think. I have no idea if they are real. They are colorful, green, red, with shades of grey and it looks like they were done in ink with color added. The paper is old, some waterspots. Wooden, painted frames. Anyone know how to determine if they are real?

Help in identifying a steel engraving
We have a framed piece, possibly a steel engraving, of what might be a European monastery. That is really only conjecture. The piece measures roughly 4 1/2" by 3 1/2". It is signed Ari Drusiani; that too, unfortunately is our best guess. On the back of the frame is a sticker which reads "Styled by the Fleck Bros" Does anyone have information about this piece? Thank you for your asistance.
Fifth Avenue by John Haymson
I have an old watercolor by John Haymson titled "Fifth Avenue." I have been told it is an original, and I can see his signature on the painting, but I have little other information, not even a year. On the back, a sticker indicates it was framed by a company called Kenney's in Tupelo, Mississippi at 810 Allen Street. Also on the back, written in red crayon with all capital letters, is the name "ANNA." Might anyone know anything about this piece of art or where I might find more information? Thank you all in advance.

BEWARE OF FALSE HAYMSON EXPERTS
I am an art consultant and art dealer for many years, a certified auctioneer since 1993, and jeweler since 1975.
I have recently posted a Haymson watercolor on ebay several times and have had three people make the preposterous claims and assertions that the item is a print, not a watercolor. None of the three have ever seen the work or taken up my invitation to examine it.
I gave notice of a claim against the individuals and also ebay for terminating the listing while I tried to defend myself and the integrity of the work.
I will also be searching for the Haymson estate holders and others who represented John Haymson so that a Definitive Catalog of his work is either undertaken or is already in progress to put an end to the self proclaimed, false experts of John Haymson and his art.
I would greatly appreciate anyone having biographical information about Mr. Haymson, if you care to share it, please contact me at your convenience.

John Haymson Works
I have just acquired five framed Haymson works and cannot tell whether they are originals or prints. They are signed, but there are no numbers on the image, and I cannot find any mention of the titles on the Internet. How would I go about finding this information?
I showed my latest acquisition (Washington Square) to a local art gallery owner. She agreed with me that this 'print' is a screen print--specifically the black (ink) portion. The mesh of the screen is detectable if looking through a loupe, but not the areas of color. Perhaps a hand-laid wash? Don't know, but do know that what I have does not resemble the subject pictured on this site which is an example of his watercolor (no texture, yet not flat).
I am, however, still quite smitten with his ca.1950s prints of NYC and will continue to collect as they come my way.
Painting/vs Silkscreen/vs Print
I own 3 'prints' by Haymson, two of which are easily recognizable as ca. 1950 (subject/style).
I've never really questioned if what I owned was 'real' or a 'print' until my last purchase...a large piece titled "Washington Square".
I have since done a bit of research online to find that he used watercolor/ink as medium and also found a few of his 'prints' being sold/described as SILKSCREEN, ca. 1950. Looking at my last purchase through a loupe, I can see the texture of a screen on the black (the ink portion of the painting), but not on the color. All three of my Haymsons do NOT have chops/copyrights, however, that does NOT mean they are not prints. These have an appearance that resembles a real painting (dulled, surface texture, etc.), however, I paint in watercolors/sometimes with ink and do not see this 'layered' effect.
Revelations: today I saw an honest-to-goodness Haymson print--flat as a pancake, still w/o copyright--as if torn from a magazine. Because of the amount of inquiries, the amount of professionally framed 'prints', the abundance of finds/deals (me too), I would assume that most (other than oils) are silkscreened prints or else he was ONE prolific (and repetitive) painter !
Personally, I am delighted with the style of the 1950s in general, but love his NYC renditions albeit not original watercolors, but a fine silkscreen prints. And then again, maybe what I have, really are originals!
Such interesting posts re' Haymson including one of his models!
Sacre Coeur Watercolour?
I found this print behind another old oilfield picture. It has David Ashley Inc., Yonkers, NY in the left bottom corner and in the middle under Sacre Coeur it says No. 386 and the right corner says Made in USA. How old is this print? I can't seem to see a reference to this particular print anywhere that I have searched John Haymson.
John Haymson Governor's Palace
I have a large piece of work by John Haymson about 24" high and 40" long of the Governor's palace in Williamsburg. John Haymson Potted Plant with Fruit
I have what I believe to be an original painting by John Haymson. I have only seen pictures of places by this artist. The one I have is some type of handled, potted plant with fruit (possibly tomatoes) growing out of it. The fruit growing at the top of the painting are green and the ones near the bottom are reddish. It is untitled unless there is something written on the back. It is framed and I did not remove the backing to see. It was framed in 1973 by Belart Inc. It reads, "From The Masterpiece Collection of Belart Inc. Finest Expression in Wall Decor". If anyone can give me any information concerning this piece, it would be greatly appreciated.

John Haymson Inkwash Paintings
Hi - I have two inkwash paintings by Mr. Haymson, one called "Floral Fancy" and the other "Summer Blush". I noticed that someone else on the board has these same paintings and this is the first that I;ve seen of that. Both of mine are professionally framed and the "Floral Fancy" also has the stamp of the North Andover Gallery in North Andover, Massachusetts. It has been all but impossible to get any further information as to value; I paid $10 each. I would also like to know if anyone knows anything about this gallery. I tried calling the phone number but it was out of service. Any help would be appreciated.

watercolors or prints?
I am interested in this column, as I have two watercolors up for sale on EBAY at this time. I have been offered 1500 USD(by an ex-Ebay user) for the two, so it appears that EBAY has not proven to be a good vehicle for art sales, at least for me. Addressing the question of watercolors or prints, it is easy to tell a Haymson original. One can easily feel (and see) the petina as the paint lies on the paper. It is obvious. With a print, there is nothing but smoothness. Also, if you will look very carefully at the very bottom of your print, there will be small (chops)in the left bottom of the painting. These identify the artist. The original has no such chops. An example of a chop would be a "C" within a circle.
