Howard Pyle info
Dear Kimby Pyle,
I'm answering your 8/26/07 posting in case you're still looking for info.
Howard Pyle's parents were William and Margaret Churchman Painter Pyle. They had three sons and one daughter who lived to adulthood, and one daughter who died very young (Phebe). Their sons were Howard, Clifford and Walter (my grandfather) Their daughter was Katharine Pyle, who, like Howard, was a successful children's author and illustrator.Howard and Clifford both married and had children. Katharine never married.
There are websites for both the Pyle and Churchman families that have more info.
Good luck!

I purchased a frame at a local auction. The picture in the frame is an etching, scrimshaw like and very detailed. It appears to be on bone or ivory and measures approx 6"x 8".The etching is very detailed and is a picture of a brick building and ? revolutionary soldiers. In the bottom r corner is etched H Pyle 1880. Did Howard Pyle use this type of medium ? The r side of the H is part of the P and a similar signature is seen on this site. Any information is appreciated.
