Civil Courts Building, St. Louis, MO I was in the process of attempting to identify what was atop the Civil Courts Building (constructionlate 1920's - early 1930's). I had difficulty in finding the answer to the question until someone from the fine arts department of the St. Louis Public Library was kind enough to assist me. One copy of a drawing of the apex of the building that bears some resemblance to both a griffon and sphinx (two actually facing in opposing direction). It was difficult to make out, but I found the name "Louis Lozowick" on the one drawing. It is also interesting that I am a former NJ native having lived not far distant from Mr. Lozowick.
