Importance of Charles White
Charles White remains one of the most important, but still historically overlooked artists in the field of African-American Art History. History will prove that Charles White will be looked as even more important than Romare Bearden, and White is more uniform in quality and did not do "commercial" for profit projects. Charles White was the first artist of African-American background to give nobility and beauty to the African-American figure. He will also go down in history as one of the most important teachers, having influenced Kerry James Marshall and several other important contemporary artists. As a teacher he is the equivilent of a black Robert Henri of African-American art, his inflence as a teacher and fine artist is immense.
