William Paskell Ship Paintings
I have two excellent paintings of 3-masted sailing ships, one rounding a headland with lighthouse, the other in open sea; both under full sail. Outstanding rendition of sea, sky and vessels. Both signed "Wm Paskell" in lower left. No indication of age, but appear to be in original frames, and quite old. Would welcome any information that might be relevant. Thank you!

Paskell in Cornwall, England
I am an art historian who specializes in the art colony of St Ives, Cornwall, England and I have just come across a reference to a painting by Paskell that in the collection of the landlord of the Sloop Inn, St Ives in 1923. Paintings in this collection were invariably gifts by artists in payment for their bar tab! However, this is the only reference I have found to Paskell being in St Ives and I wonder if anyone can help with the dates when he might have visited Cornwall/Europe. If anyone has a Cornish painting by him, that would be good to know about as well. Thanks in advance.

to Jessie When I was a child living in Boston at 1525 Washington St. your gggranfather had a studio in our apartment. My grandmother took lessons from him in lue of rent. I remember him well..a small man, white hair and a nicotene mustash! I loved him! I would run errands to the artist store for him. He would critique my paintings too. He was so nice.

William Paskell
William Paskell was my great uncle and my mother was Olive L. Paskell Petersen. I have about 20 pictures painted by "Uncle Billy" and treasure every one on them. They will be passed on to my grandchildren. Yes, some of his pictures were signed by T Bailey who hired him for consignment and I can generally tell if they were painted by Uncle Billy. We have one picture of a sailing ship that seem to turn as you walk around the room. I call it the Abraham Lincold picture as it seems to have Lincoln's face in the forward ropes of the ship. Interesting to note that someone else noticed this.

William Paskell
Like Jesse I am Great Great Great Grandaughter of William Paskell, My grandmother Olive E Paskell Day (Ollie), gave me those same found memories of going throughout the house looking at her grandfathers paintings and sharing her found memories of him, her favorites were the clipper ships, since then she had passed, but in my heart I hold those beautiful memories with my grandmother that adored her grandfather william paskell...and as fast as I know all her paintings have stayed in the family...

Great great granddaughter of W. Paskell
I am one of the great great granddaughter's of William F. Paskell. One of my favorite memories as a teenager was my grandmother showing me all his paintings and original sketch drawings that covered the walls of her entire home. She must of had about 50 at the time. Since her passing, I've learned many of them went to relatives. Its nice to know some history can remain in the family. I find myself looking on Ebay and the internet, every now and then, just to see different ones that he had painted.

William Paskell
I believe Wm (Billy) Paskell worked for my Grandfather, Arthur Beaumont in his stained and leaded glass studio known as "Beaumont & Aughtie" at 727 Atlantic Ave, Boston, Massachusetts circa 1922. We have 3 or 4 original watercolors by Paskell. One unsigned, but probably by Paskell is of the Massachusetts Nautical School training ship "Nantucket" under full sail. How can authenticity be established for this unsigned work?

Wm. Paskell Marine Watercolor
I have a watercolor I fell in love with decades ago in an antique store. It is ships returning to port on a red sky evening. It is signed "- Wm. Paskell.-" on the lower right. When I took the painting out to have it reframed, there was a 1901 Boston Globe between the backing and the frame backing. Don't know what ever happened to the old newspaper, but it had a story in it about Marconi's wireless telegraph.

William Paskell
My relative James Hunting, Francis Getty and William paskell were close friends. The family have works of all of them. They referred to themselves as "Three Musty Steers" and they all did paintings in the white mountains of NH as well as other locations. I know family of Paskell came to my grandmother to buy his works. She wouldn't sell. I would love to share with people about this rich history of these wonderful folks.

looking for Information
I have a T. Bailey painting of the Constitution in full sail( profile). it has been handed down from my grandfather and father. I guess it to be 75 plus years old. This is the first time I have looked into T. Bailey. The painting has sat covered in a closet for years. I just came upon it and thought I would see how many people are familiar with him, and what I could learn about him.

T. Bailey
Post from 2/27/05 - It appears from an article written by Walter McKay, retired professor of aeronautics and astronautics at MIT, which was published in the Mystic Seaport Log in 1982, that T. Bailey was a name used by a salesman of paintings in the 1920s and 30s. It seems that Morris Hambro bought the work of struggling artists for $15-$20, likely added the signature T. Bailey and sold them to for $25-$50 to customers in eastern Massachusetts and Martha’s Vineyard. McKay identifies 7 painters who he traced to this industry. I have one of a three masted square rigger on rough seas in what appears to be pretty heavy wind. My grandmother bought the painting on the Vineyard in the 30’s. In her handwriting on a slip of paper is “Cliftondale” apparently the name of the ship and the address of 55 River Road, Winthrop. McKay writes that Morris Hambro was born in London and died at 78 in June 1938 at 55 River Road, Winthrop, MA. I have seen several T. Bailey paintings, and they vary in quality.

Bailey
Post from 1/10/05 - I have 3 paintings signed T. Bailey: A lighthouse scene, a sheep pasture, and a ship under full sail. Would welcome information regarding the Artist. My parent's family home was originally a New England Inn on the Stage Coach road from Concord, NH to Boston, MA. "The Mountain View Inn." These paintings were hanging in the Foyer when they purchased the house.

Bailey
Originally left 1/7/05 - T. Bailey primarily painted ships. From what I understand he was a notorious alcoholic who painted for the tourist trade in New England at the turn of the century and why some of his work is very good and some is very bad. I have one of his better paintings. (must have been sober when he painted it) I would welcome your comments.

Wm Paskell Watercolor
I have a Wm. Paskell watercolor (about 5+ x 10+ inches) in a mat and frame fro E. Schoepflin & Co., Boston. The painting is of a lake with hills in the background (not Mt Chocorua or any other identifiable peak), with a birch tree in the right foreground and a small sailboat in the center distance. There is a point of land on the left with a tree in autumn color. I would like to find out if this has a title and about when it was painted -- or any information about it.

Wm Paskell
I have a ship painting of a large full sail ship, one smaller one in the background. Looks to be a stormy dawn or dusk. This is in oil. I also have a small watercolor that is the the top half of a long narrow mirror about 6 x 8" appears to be more of a European scenery. Both the oil & watercolor are signed Wm Paskell in the lower left corner. I came about these paintings from an elderly friend in about 1974. She was in her 70's then and she had inherited her cousin's house in Summerville, where these pictures came from. How can I go about finding out more about them?

HH Howe/Wm Paskell
I have been told that HH Howe is an alias for William Paskell as well. I have a marine piece that bears the HHHowe signature and have been told they could be one in the same person. I was also told that there was a real artist in Maine that painted marine art. Does anyone have any more information than that?
