Indian Maiden by Penni Cross
I have a signed print of an Indian maiden, head tilted to her right, wearing a loose-fitting white shirt, with a blue stripe running from the neck down the sleeve. She has 2 thin braids on either side of her face, with the rest of her hair loose. There are hair "bangles" of beaded red, yellow and blue "shields" with 5 beaded strands of blue, red white, repeated twice and ending with white feathers. She also wears what looks like a stone choker with a red bead inset. The choker is held together by two white chords. I'd like to know the title of the signed print, as I cannot find it anywhere on her listings of prints. I'd rather not have to unframe the professionally mounted print. Thank you for any help you have.

Penni Cross poster
When my son, who is now 41, was a teenager, he picked up a poster in a flea market and brought it home. I have always been crazy about this poster and it is framed and has been hanging in my office since then. It is Alawa-sta-we-ches, signed by Penni Cross. My husband would never admit that it was a real person. He was very bigotted because (to him) no native american woman could be that pretty. But, he is gone and I still have this lovely poster and everyone who sees it is crazy about it. Many think it's a painting. I wish it was. I will continue to enjoy my poster as long as I'm on this earth. Ms. Cross is a wonderful artist.
i have always loves your work

i knew and worked with penni and her family with teenagers and also with kids on indian reservationand from 1972-1974 in CA. she was there when my first daughter was born, in fact, i think she held her even before i did. she gave us a painting of a young indian boy holding a lamb. i believe she was just getting started painting and selling indian subjects at this time. anyone else have one like this? also, where is her gallery? where is she? the last time i saw her was in 1978 and would love to contact her.
An early painting
I have a very early oil painting by Penni Anne Cross. It is signed but not dated. I bought it in Palmdale CA. Penni lived in Anatlope Valley at the time and a shop in Palmdale had some of her paintings for sale. Most of her paintings were of gibson girls at that time. Penni painted this before she started doing her Indian paintings. It has a black background. There are two women in dresses from the 1800's. They are looking into an empty bird cage with the door open. I was told that Penni had gotten the idea from an old photograph of her grandmother. Since it is one of her earlist efforts, I wonder if it has much value.

She was the heart of God for her model in the "White Shawl". I remember and my heart aches with both sadness and joy.
I am an Australian who met an Anne Cross in Iran in 1977 when she and I were both living there. She gave me a Indian lithograph of hers dated 1975. Is this the same person? Does anyone know?
Original Penni Anne Cross
I have an original piece from Penni Anne Cross, which was purchased almost 20 years ago. I believe the title of the piece is "White Shawl", but not sure. She is an equisite Indian draped in a white shawl. If anyone knows how I might contact Penni, I would greatly appreciate as I would like to know the correct title of the piece.
I have owned two prints of the Half Breed series for ~15 years now. I had an artist extend the artwork and colors onto the frames. They are absolutely spectacular. The artist's signature hair strands flowing in the wind originally caught my eye. I actually prefer the woman sitting n the horse to the other one where an even more beautiful American Indian is simply standing holding her skirt (although the latter has more vibrant blue colors).
Hubby and I have been collecting Penni Anne Cross prints since the mid '80's. we love her work. We got to meet her when she was in Minneapolis and have two hand signed prints. She is so talented. She is a very nice person also.
Indian maiden Alawa-sta-we-ches
My 83y.o. father has this print and would very much like to know if it is a print of a REAL peraon or if it was just something that you saw in your mind's eye. He thinks it is the most beautiful print he has, as do I and we would really like to find this info for him before he passes away, as it seems very important to him. If the artist could respond to me, or anyone could tell me how to contact the artist, I would greatly appreciate it. This would mean the world to him and me! So I hope someone can help me.

Finding more and new Penni Anne Cross Work
My husband and I have collected Penni Anne Cross lighographs for about 15 years now and we have what we call "her room" as it is full of her beautiful work.
We have been told that she closed her gallery and we wonder if that is true as I would love to see some of her new things. This is one talented person and I adore her work.

Penni Anne Cross
I knew Penni Anne Cross when I was a child. My family was friends with her family. At that time (1970 or so) she painted a wonderful portrait of me, yet did not sign it. She was going to paint a portrait of all six kids in my family and did get two done.
I am trying to locate her to see if she would be willing to sign my painting.
Does anyone have any info on if she is still living and if so, where?
