Paul de Longpre
I inherited an original Paul de Longpre which is beautiful, but does not suit my style. I am interested in donating it to a museum and was wondering if Nancy Rocha would be kind enough to point me in the right direction. Ms. Rocha, if you read this board , I would appreciate a response. My email is private to avoid offers on this piece. Thank you.

My conversation with Nancy Rocha
Love deLongpre! So much info out there but even more questions. I saw Nancy at the Wickford art festival in RI. She looks gorgeous as always even in the rain and is still involved w/19th-early 2oth century works but is now involved with more moderngraphic oils. She has launched a fantastic jewelry line and was featured at the festival. Art just keeps spreading its wings!

"Chrysanthemums" by Paul de Longpre
I have in my possession one of the last paintings of Paul de Longpre. It is a beautiful 13 x 15 watercolor of a vase of chrysanthemums. The painting was purchased in California in 1912 from a millionaire and a note came with the painting. The note was written by J. Allan Harvey, March 13, 1912. Harvey was the secretary to Paul de Longpre. The note reads: "617 South Hill Street, Los Angeles, California. I, John Allan Harvey, for 3 years secretary to the late Paul de Longpre and with him until he died, know that this picture was one of his last paintings by this artist and it was his intention to place the same in his next exhibition. This picture was this day sold by me to Ray Billingsley of Grange. J. Allan Harvey." The price paid in 1912 was $100.00. It is an exquisite painting and one that has not been viewed by the public. I am not interested in selling it at this time but perhaps in future years since I have no one to treasure it after my death.

Reference Book on Paul de Longpre
For more information on your prints and paintings by Paul de Longpre, a comprehensive resource is my book "The Life & Art of Paul de Longpre". Google the title for sites where it can be found. In viewing most of the online postings, many of the items you are referring to are listed, and many of them are chromolithograph prints, not paintings. They look like paintings because of the thick color layer process associated with chromolithographs.

I have a delongpre painting that I inherited from my aunt. At first I was not sure if it was authentic and had no idea of who paul delongpre was. I contacted Nancy Rocha and she really helped me to find trustworthy appraisers clear across the country. I thank her for all of her emails and calls she made for me. I also thank her for her advice on not to accept offers from art dealers. I had a few low offers to "take it off my hands." I had no idea of the value of my painting. Thanks, Nancy.

many thanks to Nancy Marcacio Rocha
I found this page very helpful. I was able to locate Nancy Rocha. I spoke to her at length several times and exchanged various emails. Mrs. Rocha helped me to identify and advised me on preservation for my Delongpre painting that has been in my family for generations. I had no idea of its significance. Thank you Nancy Rocha for your time and consideration.

For Darlene Fithian:
You should contact Nancy Marcaccio Rocha or Peter Sanderlott for help IDing your painting. I saw them in Boston this summer and they hepled a few lecture attendees to identify works. They were great! Chek on line for their contact info. This site does not post email or phone numbers.

Nancy will be speaking at several engagements in Newport RI and Boston this spring. I know her subject matter will include the works of both P & R Delongpre and I think one lecture will be workshop style in Boston... something about poetic response... Look for date postings in usual local/regional art publications.

I went through my master's program with Nancy at PC. I owe her half of my degree for pulling we through those brutal comp exams. We still stay in touch through our interests in DeLongpre. For those looking to contact her, I have her email.

Perfect Form Nancy Rocha
While googling Nancy Rocha to check for upcoming lectures, I found this discussion about her.I attended one of her lectures last summer. Nancy's topic had to do with the harmonious blending of art and home decor. I have secretly thought that the two should function and be considered together in a home but was afraid to speak up in front of my purist 'art for art' friends. Looking back on my lecture notes, two things Nancy said really stood out. "Never begin to decorate a room with the notion of how you think it should look, you will not achieve visual impact that way. Always begin your work in a space by closing your eyes and thinking about how you want the space to make you FEEL."
She also said, when discussing the work of Paul DeLongpre, that "the decor of a room can easily discredit the visual and emotional impact and integrity of a specific piece or collection presented in the space." I say words to live by!
I agree w/John' posting and more..Nancy is a very charming lady.

Nancy Rocha RI
This response is for Kendal James. Nancy Rocha does live in southern Rhode Island. My decorator and I consulted with her many times when decorating my home a couple of years ago. She also knows a great deal about textiles.Get in touch with her if you can, she is very generous with her time and knowledge. Also, I would love to know how you managed to find two original DeLongpre paintings if you care to share that info. Be careful because I have come across a couple of convincing fakes. I have been looking for years and even Nancy could not locate an authentic piece for me.

I know Nancy Rocha. I too have enjoyed her lectures on home decor and decorative art. The info John supplied is correct. You may have better luck finding her under Nancy Marcaccio Rocha in Saunderstown or North Kingstown RI.
I thought that I had her email but can't seem to find it. If I do, I'll post it later.

DeLongpre
I met Nancy Rocha at an event in Boston last year. I believe she is from South Kingstown, RI. She was asked to speak on the 19th century movement in still life as inspired by DeLongpre. I'm no authority in this area but she seems to know her stuff. I hope this info helps you find her. She is a charming lady!

Paul DeLongpre
I was looking for an expert to purchase art for my home and to evaluate pieces that I own. I have two original DeLongpre paintings and am uncertain as to the authenticity if a third that I am considering. I was told by several dealers that a woman from RI, Nancy Rocha, has an impeccable eye and is the person to work with but I have not been able to locate her. If anyone knows her contact info, I would really appreciate having it. Thanks!

I have a print that I can't seem to find any information on. It is signed Paul deLongpre, Los Angelos, 1905. It is of four roses (two cream, one pink, one red and a pink bud) with three bees hovering to the left. It has a blue background. It also has a raised copywrite date 1905 with "The Crowell Publishing Company" located at the bottom right. It is in perfect condition except for a tiny piece of print (eraser-head size) at the top left. Thanks, Greta

Paul de Longpre'
I have what appears to be a painting, not a copy of pansies in a bowl and scattered around the bowl. The painting is 16 x 20 in a wooden gilded frame (scroll work if that's what you call it is very fancy). My family lived in N.Y. for a short time and I don't know when this came into their possession. When my mom passed away 12 yrs ago I inherited it. Can anyone share any information on this particular painting? Thanks so much.

I have what I believe is a de Longre. It hung in my mother's bedroom for 25 years or so and I've no idea where she got it.

It is entitled "The Three Most Beautiful Roses".

Has anyone ever heard of it? It's not in very good shape but easily recognizable.

Print or watercolor
I also have a print or watercolor by Paul De Longpre. It is signed and dated 1896. The subject is Lilacs only. My mother gave it to me and told me it had belonged to my paternal Grandmother. She was born in 1891 and I would imagine it had belonged to someone in her family. It is framed in a lovely gold frame and has a gold matting. I would appreciate any information anyone may have for me on this. Thanks!

Paul de Longpre oils
We have 2 oils that are signed by Paul de Longpre and another artist, Fletcher M. Peddicord. Both are dated 1894, are originals in their original frames. Does anyone know anything about this dual signing? Did Paul de Longpre teach and sometimes co-sign work?
We also have an original F.M. Peddicord oil dated 1896 in quite a different style.

Any information about Peddicord or about dual signatures will be greatly appreciated!

Basket of Roses
Bill, your Basket of Roses was issued in 3 different formats, all for the Arbuckle Coffee Company. One was called A Basket of Roses, and was painted while de Longpre was still on the East Coast. In fact, you can see the painting in my book, "The Life & Art of Paul de Longpre" just out this last year. It was also entitled A Basket of Roses and was unsigned. A third version was yet issued, which cuts off the far left rose and is cropped right through a bumblebee. Nancy Hall

Print vs. Watercolor
I have a Paul de Longpre floral that is signed and dated. It is dated 1898 and shows its age.

However, being a novice, it is difficult for me to determine if it is an original watercolor or if it is, in fact, a print. Is there an easy way to check? Thanks in advance for your input.

Paul de Longpre
I have, what I believe to be, a chromolithograph, signed Paul de Longpre and dated 1892. The subject is a rather laarge bunch of pink, yellow, and red 'grandiflora' roses, and their leaves-w. little evidence of stems against a rather dark-toned background. Are his chromos all based on existung paintings or were many of these imaages produced ssolely for publication. From the paintingss thaat I have seen, the backgounds are generally light-toned. I am seeking to learn more about this piece as well as his other early (PRE-1900) chromolithographs. Any help would be apreciated!

Biographical Info
I have an old Who's Who in American, 1910-1911, which has a biographical sketch of Paul de Longpre. According to this source, he was born at Lyons on April 18, 1855, to Victor and Theresia (Pinchaud) de Longpre. Educated at public schools in Paris, at age 12 he began to paint flowers on fans. He married at 19 to Josephine Estievenard of Paris in March of 1874, and in 1876, he first had paintings accepted to the Paris Salon. The failure of a large Paris bank destroyed his finances, and in 1890, Paul came to New York. His first showing to be exclusively of flower paintings took place at the American Art Galleries in 1896 and he participated in yearly exhibitions thereafter. Moving to Los Angeles in 1899, he built a residence in Hollywood with 3 acres of flower gardens--"a place much visited by tourists." The article goes on to say that Paul was a Catholic and a Republican.
