Caroline Petigru Carson
Can anyone tell me if Caroline Petigru's husband or her son, William was also an artist painting landscapes?
Caroline Petigru Carson
Carson is, indeed, a
native of Charleston
and daughter of the
eminent Unionist lawyer
James Louis Petigru; but
she fled to New York
City at the start of the Civil War and later would spend the
last twenty years of her
life in Rome, where she
was mainly a watercolorist. She died
in 1880, I believe, and
is buried in Rome's
Dale Reed mentioned that she was the daughter of James Petigru of Charleston, SC, and did portraits there. Signed her name either Caroline Carson, or "CC".
