Frank Tenney Johnson Frank Tenney Johnson apprenticed to panorama painter F.W.Heine in Milwaukee in 1888, and Richard Lorenz,1889. The F.W.Heine diaries 1879-1917 ,which are highly illustrated, were discovered hidden in plain sight 9-18-2003 in a museum display case at Milwaukee Co. Historical Society, donated by a member of the Heine family in 1963. These are now being transcribed in German ,translated to English, and scanned onto a computer, & recently received a major grant from the Bradley Foundation of Milwaukee. This is a project of the Max Kade Institute for German-American Studies @ University of Wisconsin, Madison. Also found were the Bernard Schneider photos,150 glass plate negatives, in a basement behind a furnace in Cedarburg,Wis., which document William Wehner's panorama operation.Contact: Max Kade Institute, Museum of Wisconsin Art, Goethe House Milwaukee, Milwaukee County Historical Society for further information.

Uncle Frank Tenney Johnson Frank Tenney Johnson was my great uncle. His sister was my grandmother and she was married to Fred Turner of Hebron Illinois . She died long before I was born. In Dec of 1957 spent several days at aunt Vinnie's home in Calif. At that point in time his studio was still behind her house and his last painting was still there, unsigned. Was told he made final touches to his pictures before signing. Uncle Frank visited our farm in norther Illinois during 1938 on his return from a Art Show in New York on his way home to Calif. I was only about 3, so do not remember him. Would love to hear from other relatives.

photos My father was one of Mr. Johnson's favorite models. When Mr. Johnson would visit Wyoming he would photograph my father then paint in the winters from those photos. I have several photos that I have seen oils rendered from. I would be willing to send copies of photos to anyone wishing them.

Frank Tenney Johnson Laura,
I bought an "out of print" book through Amazon.com on the life of Frank Tenney Johnson. It was written by Harold McCracken and is appropriately titled "Frank Tenney Johnson". It is a great book with quite a few photographs of him and pictures of his artwork. My husband and I have been collecting his artwork for about six years now. We love his style and the way his paintings have such a life like quality. Good luck on your search!
