I have a M. Katz painting from 1962 called "Gentle Waters". It's a sofa painting size, aprox 18" x 60". For years I wondered if it was Morris Katz because of the signature M. Katz. Everything I have ever found on the internet has his first name spelled out. I just recently found a painting on E-Bay listed as one of his, but with the signature like mine. I wonder if his earlier works were signed that way, and later he started using his full first name. Any clue as to how much my painting is worth?

I have a very large 48x67 painting by Katz signed in 1961. It's a Tuscan Valley/Village scene with mountains and a lake in the background at sunset.Very Beautiful. I tried to contact the Katz society by phone and e-mail before sending them $100. No response... I was hoping i would have better luck on this forum. I was just thinking - Morris Katz paintings are a lot like Bob Dylan recordings. Dylan recorded many of the same songs more than once, but in different versions, all sounding differently. Katz painted many of his works over and over, but no two are exactly the same.

just yesterday found a wonderful painting in a thrift store, one that measures about 16 inches by 60 inches, in what looks like an original frame, entitle 'spanish villa' by morris katz. it has beautiful colors, with stucco buildings in bright sun.

i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw the price, which i won't disclose here. i saw a certain boldness in this work, high sensibility of color, and tons of masculine character! very pleased to know that it's by a well-known painter, which i suspected from the moment i saw it!

I purchased my painting in 1964 from Burdines Art Gallery in Miami Florida. It is dated 1963, is 53"x29", in the original gold leaf frame. I corresponded with Morris Katz regarding the value of my painting and he said that his art of the type I have goes up 15 to 20[%] every year.He sent me a letter stating that " Let it be known that this is my early creation of Pikes Peake Colo., painted in 1961-62. I think the retail price was $700.00-$900.00. Best Regards Morris Katz.It is beautiful.A blue sky with clouds, snowcapped mountain, pine trees, mist and rock formations in the foreground.
