Timothy P. Flannery

Isamu Noguchi
As noted, Noguchi began his artistic training in NYC at the Leonardo DaVinci Art School. This school had been founded in 1923 by two Italian heritage sculptors, Onorio Ruotolo (among whose many works is the bust of Caruso at the Metropolitan opera in NYC) and Attilio Piccirilli (who, together with his father and five brothers, was responsible for such landmark works as the Maine Monument at Columbus Circle, NYC).
Years later, Noguchi would gratefully cite the important role Ruotolo had played as benefactor and mentor. TFP, Viterbo, Italy, 2004
