Possible Picasso artists proof
I have what I believe to be a Picasso artists proof. It is printed on rice paper. On the lower right corner is 6.6.61 IX. On the left corner is 146/500.

It is a black drawing of a reclined, nude woman. A seated, man or woman (not sure). A turtle and an infant.

I have not been able to locate any final prints similar to it.

Any ideas? I can email a photo if you like. Is there typically any value to the artists proofs? It is in very good condition.

Thank you. LB

Information on Picasso litho
We recently purchased a signed Picasso lithograph with a certificate of Authenticity titled "King on Horse", Mourlot edition., Paris, France. The king is looking at a nude woman. In the top right hand corner there is the number one followed by a space and the roman numeral 2. Beneath that is the number one. The certificate of authenticity is from "Modern and Contemporary". Can you tell me how many of these exist and the approximate value?

The Lovers
I bought a Picasso from a used book store, which has a very old frame and a label on the back top right corner stating it is on loan from the Chester Dale Collection, Chicago Museum of art. It is on brown paper and looks like it is water coler & charcole sketch of the oil painting "The Lovers".The curtain is not pink as in the painting but more neutral grayish toned. Could this be a pre-painting sketch? The signature looks like it is also charcoal. How do I find out if it could be authentic indeed? I do not see any sign of it being a print on close inspection though I have left it in the original frame in case that might decrease value?

Picasso 1951 "Owl"
You never know ... I am researching for a friend who owns the "owl" sketch - 20 years ago he paid 3,000. Some interesting facts are; the canvas has a pencil Picasso signature and has the number/quanity i.e., 80/100. We are wondering now if it's an original and what steps can we take to authenticate. If you can provide any information to save me steps I would greatly appreciate it - I welcome all feedback. Thank you! Robyn and Barry - S. Fla.

Picasso 11/17/59
I have what appears to be an old picasso painting dated 11/17/59. It is the musician, dancer, bird and goat. It is done on a cloth material and is not numbered. This painting appears to have quite a bit of age to it and I bought it from a young couple who seemed to have inherited several items that looked like they have been in storage for a number of years. I would like to know if anyone could tell me any information on this painting or a ball park value. Thanks!

Picasso - La Ronde Metal Tile?
I just picked up a Picasso signed Metal "tile" approx 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" featuring La Ronde. Now the lithograph of the print has a line under his name. This metal plate/tile does not. It actually looks like a clearer version of his signature. It is in a 6" x 6" frame. Was this mass produced? If so, I've not been able to find it! Any help?

"Woman in White" Signed, Unnumbered - Seeking Info
Hi - I've found a print of Picasso's "Woman in White" which is signed by him but unnumbered so I'm assuming it is not an artist's proof. The guy selling it said he has taken it to several experts and they have informed him that it is from the 1930's. Does anyone have experience with this particular print? If so, I'd love to know as much about it as possible (e.g. price est., auction results, rarity, etc.) and really any other info on prints/lithos from this era. Please feel free to email me with any info on Picasso stuff as if this one doesn't pan out. Thanks so much.

I think I may own an orginal Picasso oil on canvas painting. How do I know?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated. This painting is signed in bold red lettering "Picasso and underlined". It is framed in wood and depicts a downtown scene in Italy or France. Colors are bold and brillant. The town is vibrant, horse and buggy carriages are heading forward and gas-light poles align the track-laden street. The building are one- and two-stories and feature beautiful valances and awnings. Four beautiful ladies are crossing the street, faces turned forward, there backs are turned. The day is gray and damp, as everyone are wearing coats and hats. It is an autumn scene. The greens, yellows, reds, whites, blacks, and orange are beautifully illustrated. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! I would love to determine this artwork's authenticity.

question about "hands holding flowers" print
My Mom purchased a 19"x25" framed "hands holding flowers" print on canvas that reportedly was originally in Picasso's New York gallery on April 21, 1958. It was the original print used as the placeholder for the original art work. There are some black ink marks on the poster similar to the black ink used by Picasso to sign the work. It appears to be "570". Is there anyway to determine if this history is accurate?

All your paintings/prints are fake. Out of a million "picasso" paintings only one will be real. Just enjoy your print/painting for what it is. It's fake but it's still art.

Picasso Pencil Study
I have a pencil drawing about 15" x 10 1/2" that looks as if it could be a study. It is entitled Dos Figuras y un Gato, i.e., Two Figures and a Cat. I have found that there is a large oil painting that looks like this sketch, this drawing also has some color and some very faint erotic drawings throughout the background. Apparently it is from Picasso's blue period in the early 1900s. It is a sketch of a man performing cunnilingus on a woman with a cat watching. Does anyone have any idea how to determine if this is real? It looks old, it looks like the sketch was folded at one time and does have Picasso hand printed in the upper right side of the drawing.

Possible Picasso drawings
Around 15 years ago I purchased a "lot" of drawings, etchings, wood cut prints, and watercolor/acrylic/oil paintings from the last day of a a suburban fine art gallery. There are around 50 pieces, many signed and some unsigned. The sketches that I have, which appear to either be Picasso, or a student of his, possibly, were on a sketch pad from "libraries Gibert-Paris. Under that is says papeterie a prix exceptionnels. Most of the works included in the lot that I purchased are from 1933-1945. Where can I research and find out if these pencil drawings are authentic? Did Picasso ever do drawings on a tablet of paper that were unsigned?
thanks!
Karen

Do people really find (Genuine) Million-Dollar Picassos?
Do you own an "unquestionably genuine" and valuable painting or other work of art (not a print, lithograph or limited edition) by Pablo Picasso that you bought for a small amount of money? N.Y. Times bestselling authors Les and Sue Fox are doing research for a new book titled "The Art Buyer's Handbook" to be published in 2011 or 2012. The book will feature stories of "unexpected discoveries" of famous art - like Joseph Decker's "Ripening Pears", a masterpiece bought at a garage sale for $5 and later sold to the National Gallery Of Art for $1,000,000. (Seriously.) Unfortunately, most original Picassos turn out to be fakes, especially oil paintings. Famous and valuable artists are the natural target of expert forgers, and some people can paint "Picassos" that really look like the work of the master. Picasso experts can often discredit the fakes based on type of canvas, age of paint, stylistic errors and other forensic or artistic detection factors. And usually, if not always, an important work of art can be authenticated or rejected on the basis of provenance. (Original invoice, museum exhibitions, letters, book references, etc.) The "Picasso" signature is easily copied. Note: Picasso paintings don't just "turn up" at garage sales. They come from important collections, patrons of the arts, family and friends of the artist, museum deaccessions, and, of course, sometimes they are stolen. But...if you own, or know someone who bought a genuine Picasso for a small amount of money and it is actually worth "a lot of money", we'd like to publish your story in our new book. The facts must be verified, and your name will remain confidential, unless you would like us to publish it. We are not offering to authenticate Picassos. We are only interested in stories involving original, genuine and valuable art, preferably an oil painting. We only want to publish a great (and true) story where someone bought a real Picasso for a fraction of its value. Looking forward to hearing from you. Les Fox / West Highland Publishing / West Highland Art Auction Brokers.

Nude Descending a Staircase No. 2 is a Male
In the French title of the work, ''Nu descendant un escalier n° 2'', the word ''nu'' for ''nude'' is a masculine noun. Although the figure is always referred to as a female, the female word for a nude in French is ''nue'' with an ''e'' on the end.
Also, one does not need a particular gift of insight regarding subliminal imagery to see the several obvious penises in the painting, which appear to go from flaccid (on the left) to erect (on the right) as the nude presumably descends.
Perhaps this was a private joke Duchamp was playing. And perhaps this is the real reason this work was rejected from the Cubist show at the [[][[]Salon des Indépendants]] in Paris—not because nudes always posed on repose as he had allegedly been told, but because jurist [[][[]Albert Gleizes]] and Duchamp's brothers, [[][[]Jacques Villon]] and [[][[]Raymond Duchamp-Villon]], saw the not-so-well hidden phallic imagery and thought it best to pull the piece (no pun intended) rather than risk a scandal lest the wealthy patrons attending the show ''not'' fail to miss a plethora of penises on display mere inches away from the tips of their snooty little noses.
Then, as now, and ever since ancient Greece, only flaccid penises have been deemed artistically acceptable in Western art while erect penises have always been considered somehow vulgar and obscene. (Though how all those Sabine women were raped in so many paintings over the centuries I'll never know.)

Picasso Oil Painting?
I have an oil painting that I found tucked away behind other artwork at an estate sale. Note: I bought some other pieces by different artists and the others that I purchased were authentic and sold at auction. This one in particular I cannot find any information about. It is a oil painting 18 x 24 and it is signed Picasso 3-69 in the upper right hand corner of painting. It is a painting of what I think is a womans face. Her hair is parted in the middle. One side red the other yellow. The painting is dark colors grays, blues, yellow, red, black. If you look at the painting you could see the womans face as a frontal piece, but you also see a side view of the womans face because of the way the nose was painted. I am not sure where I should turn to find out information. I have searched internet and still can't find out information. Any help would be appreciated.

Dealer's opinion
Folks, if your Picasso lacks a Gallery seal or lot number, 99[%] chance your artwork is a fake. I sold a Picasso once at a prestigious auction in New York. The auction house seriously stated to me, "the provenance is worth more than the artwork." I am amazed at all of the $1 million Picasso's being sold online for a few hundred dollars!!!!!!! P.T Barnum was right. A sucker is born every minute...

The White Clown (white figure. green background, brown paper --- is an authentic .56., PPicasso image. It was created in 1901 and can be found on the on-line Picasso site. The reference number os OPP.01.226. It also appears in the other comprehensive catalogues --- see Z.I. 56. P.I.672 DB.VI.7.
I do not, however, know the origin of the pochoir lithographs about which people are talking here. I do know, however, that they've been around for a while --- my wife's family has had one since at least the 1950's.

Picasso - collection of marina picasso 1997 #93/99
I found a beautifully framed, very high quality expensive framing and matting.. Inside is a beautiful piece that says Paris ( i think) with handwriting at the bottom that says, Collection of marina picasso 1997 97/99.
Coincidentally i have a picasso book, called l'ceuvre grave de picasso from 1955 and i found a version w/ less intricate details but of same work, called "david et Bethsabee. 1947, M 109 iv. lithographie. Also the piece I have has two watermarks, one that says Picasso. Also seems to have signed in stone, Also has round watermark that says like" europe edition limited edition, stone signed lithograph"
I know Marina Picasso has done some editions.. I am trying to find out and make sure this is a legitimate authentic piece.. please help or direct me... thank you.

White Clown
My mother passed away a couple of years ago and I have one of the White Clown paintings in my possession as well. The painting was given to my mother by her husband approximately 35 years ago. Her husband was given the painting from his sister who allegedly acquired it while she was living in France. Very interesting to learn that my painting is apparently one of many......

Picasso or not?
I have a painting that may be attributed to Picasso; the signature though is not "Picasso" but "Ruiz". Is it true that in his first years he signed his work with his father's last name (Ruiz) before deciding to use his mother's maiden last name (Picasso)? This painting has a ballerina dancing with Arlequin in the center surrounded by several other ballerinas in a Degas style.

Clown with acrobat
I have a small painting of a cown in yellow with an acrobat in blue on the clown's right side. It is painted on some type of board, some pencil lines are showing. I don't know what medium it is painted in but it does have a shiny finish, maybe sprayed. It appears to be quite old. It is signed Picasso on the lower right hand corner. Any info? Thanks.

woman in chair
My wife and I received a portrait of a young woman from her grandmother about twenty years ago. The woman in the portrait is sitting in a chair with her arms crossed and her head tilted slighty up. She is wearing either a white dress or night gown and has picasso signature in the lower right corner. I have searched the web and can not find anything by Picasso that resembles the portrait. Does anyone have any information on this print.
Thanks-Terry

Picasso White Clown
Somebody found one of these "White Clowns", a figure of a white clown on a bold green background done on thin brown paper, at a thrift store in Florida last year and I also found one at an estate sale a couple years ago.It is very hard to get any info on these ,no one is willing to do any back checking to see if they are real or forgeries or what they are. I have found a couple of others on eBay as well over the years and I took mine to a "supposed" expert only to be shown a photo of yet another one she looked at and didn't know what it was either. Here's the thing, every one that I saw,now about three or four, was basically the same, yet just a little bit different. It is obvious that these are hand done, probably gouche or tempura, and done very quickly with very broad brush strokes, the green being applied with a very wide brush. One eBay auction said that they were done at a gallery opening in Paris back in the late thirties, early forties by him in a large edition, like 1500, to raise money so he could move to the south of France before the war started and you could watch him do it.It was done a very cheap thin brownish paper, mine is board mounted, and I think each sheet was printed in black with the basic figure, the clown, which he then painted over in simple, cheap, fast drying paints and signed at the top left in black. He loved money so I wouldn't be surprised if he actually did just that, he lived rather high with kids and clothes and women, not to mention all his houses. It's his signature and they also are all the same but each one has a slight, subtle difference. My theory is that most of these just either were lost in the war or were stored as a cheap poster in a closet or loft and just disintegrated with a few, maybe a hundred or so, being framed or mounted and sold helter skelter right after the war when Picasso was producing everything from coffee mugs to tiles to draperies printed with bullfight scenes and who knows what else. While he was alive a lot of that stuff was rather cheap and tacky and easily purchased,as is this, but now it all trades,if really from his studio, for a lot of money.I mention the drapes because I recently saw a set ,reminded me of those childrens drapes with action figures, covered in flowers and bull fighters with his signature prominently plastered over every bull and they were selling for thousands. In closing I think a lot of his stuff is wonderful and a lot of it is crap produced for money with very little artistic merit and I think these clowns, even if real, might be just that. The lady in Florida that found hers at a Salvation Army has the newspaper story to show so she might make some headway with an "expert",I sure haven't, and maybe these things could be worth a couple of thousand dollars, who knows. Well, good luck.

picasso signature
I recently cleaned out a garage for a customer and came accross several posters the one I am interested in information about is a Picasso poster that is 14.25"x19.5" and is titled Torro en Vallavis 1955. I understand posters are reprinted all the time cheap. This one has the Picasso signature in the artwork (reprinted) but has a second signature at the bottom off the print and looks to be done in red pencil or crayon. I would love to get more information on how to verify if this is an authentic signature

Ceramic/pottery Picasso?
I have recently purchased a piece of pottery signed Picasso. The inscription on the bottom is limited edition, by Padillo. It also is handwritten on the bottom: 1A/500. I doubt the authenticity of the piece because in my research I read all LE pottery should be stamped "Madoura." Is anyone familiar with "Padilla." Also, does anyone know what 1A/500 means? It is also marked 245, which I was told was 245/500. The piece looks like a pitcher with 2 spouts(?), in brown and blue. Thanks everyone.

Don Quixote-Picasso Original
Over 10 years ago I was given a Picasso drawing done in black ink, Don Quixote and Little Pancho. It's dated on the front lower righthand corner, Oct 1953 and is signed by Picasso.

It was in a gold painted frame but I removed it to check for numbers or any other identifying marks but found none.
The paper shows some discoloration from where the frame had been but it is not damaged. When using a magnifying glass I can actually see little flakes of black ink that have flaked off from the painting.
What I have is not a photo.

The lady that owned the Picasso before me was a Broadway dancer in the 1950's and went by the stage name of "Queenie". Through research I have determined that Picasso actually did some costume designing for Broadway during the same time period which show a possible link between Picasso
and my friend.
She may have been given a gift from the man himself. I believe I could have an original. What steps should I take to determine if this is an original? Any advice would be very appreciate. Thanks for your time.

in response to alex
I believe picasso has done duplicate paintings, and hopefully research will prove this to be true."the lady and the dove"is a prime example.Of course there will probably be some differences.I have a small old canvas oil painting from the rose period signed picasso, there is one hanging in a museum that is almost identical except it is done on paper and is larger, it is of different colors other than the normal rose period colors and it is a watercolor,I feel that my painting is the original and the one in the museum was the study for it or vice versa.I think anything was possible with picasso, he was extroadinary...I suppose picasso's grandaughter or the experts could authenticate but i bet it is very costly to do, any input would be appreciated.

PICASSO "THE LOVERS"
I bought a painting at a yard sale. It is "The Lovers" by Picasso. I bought it for the frame. A woman sold it because her mother in law was moving to the US from France. She thought the painting was so ugly so she sold it while the M-I-Law was settling her moms estate. I tried to authenicate it to no avail. No one can tell me anything. It is on stretch canvass that looks like an old timey tablecloth. It has a stamp on the matted part that say's Out of the Chester Dale Collection. washington D. C.... I was told it is NOT a lithograph, copy or reproductiomn. So what else is there.?Measurements are all different than normal paintings. Like 32 1/2 by 17 1/2 (for instance only).
How and where do I find out about this painting. The Roadshow said, it was not any of the above but could not say what or if it is authenic. I need help please....

Title Header: ORIGINAL Drawing hand Signed PICASSO Appraised $75,000, Extremely RARE
This absolutely incredible piece is so amazing to stand before in person I cant begin to tell you in this listing, its story is also incredible.

G B Tate And Sons
EVALUATION OF THE SUBJECT ARTWORK:
Pablo Picasso, "Ecstasy", Pencil drawing $60,000 - 80,000 USD

It is a Real Drawing Hand signed Picasso, Not a Lithogragh, Print, or Giclee of any kind. The piece is part of a private Montecito collection and probably the most beautiful of all we have. It was purchased 40 Years ago from a swiss gallery and the provenance dates back to Picasso's Mistress Marie Therese Walter. We have had this piece looked over by G B Tate and Sons, one of the highest regarded appraisers and dealers in North America as well as Dr. Darragh Elliott President of Maynard Elliott Inc in Canada. The official appraisal of $75,000 comes from G B Tate and Sons, although Dr. Darragh said it could be worth around $300,000. We have a 15 Page write up on the Piece alone. As I have been told the owner of the piece was great friends with Francois Gilot "Picasso's" Mistress

Picasso painting
Hi, I have a question, I have an identical Pablo Ruiz Picasso Le déjeuner [[]Le repas] 1953 same size and age, there are no markings on mine that I could see, it came from an auction in Norwich, CT. USA (out of the woodworks) I paid 1500 USD for it and the auctioneer didnt know what it was. Neither did the people that bid or saw it as well I believe. The authenticated one I saw is on plywood and mine is canvas. Is it possible that mine has a chance of being authenticated? Has he made duplicate paintings virtually identical?

Thank you and best regards,

I saw a picture of a carved wooden statue about 66" tall, carved out of what looks to be mahagony or rosewood. It is dated 2-9-49, and has picasso's name carved in the base.
I have reviewed thousands of Picasso's works of all kinds, I have never found any other wood carvings.
Do you know of any?
I have seen paint, print, terra cotta, bronze, ceramic etc.
If this is truly a work of Picasso in wood, it is probably priceless.

The hardware and the wear on it makes me believe my print exceeds fifty years or more. The painting was done in 1923 and is called Woman in White. There is an interesting story that go along with this particular origional painting. Hope this information helps.

Picasso lithograph or charcoal
I have a charcoal or lithograph of Picasso's le femme assise le bras croise done of Sara Murphy in 1923. It is signed by Picasso. There was no authenticity acknowledgement. I did some research and learn that this has niot been released for reproduction in the United States. How do I check on this? Any Clues?

Another Picazzo?
I have a small painting done on a piece of canvas, it seems to be of a child sitting in a patch of dried grass with their knees tucked up to their chest and their arms around the legs, there's a lot of orange and red in the painting. The signature is done in cursive and seems to read Picazzo... Would this be Picasso? Or someone else? Oh yeah.. there's also a drawn pencil outline.. like it was measured for a frame or something.

Picasso Algerian Girl
I found a print(?) of Picasso's "Algerian Girl" in some old boxes this weekend. It's framed, and a tag on the back says #13 Modern Classics series. I can't find a photo of this print anywhere on the Internet. Does anyone have any information about this print? Is it a real Picasso?

Thanks, Sherry

Picasso's signature
Did Picaso ever used "K" in place of "C" in his signature on the paintings?

picasso quotation
"From the moment that art ceases to be food that feeds the mind . . .It is a bitter confession this confession of mine, more painful that it may seem. But at least and at last it does have the merit of being honest"

WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING WHETHER PICASSO ACTUALLY MADE THIS QUOTE. WHEN, WHERE, ETC.

Pablo Picasso Sketch
Very curious about a sketch we have by Pablo Picasso. It is a limited edition reprint charcoal sketch of a plow horse. It is titled "Barcelona - Junio 1898". It is number 327/500 and signed "from the collection of Marina Picasso" with her signature. It has a raised seal in the lower left which appears to be some sort of insignia and a raised seal in the right hand corner that states "A limited Edition after a work by Pablo Picasso". I believe it was done when he was a very young man during his stay in Barcelona while recuperating from Scarlet Fever. Can anyone offer any other info? Does this piece have any value?

Picasso
I am looking for information regarding two works of Picasso.
Both are from the time referred to as his "negro period". The first one is of a man in a white shirt, titled "Negro Dancer". The second, is of a woman in a red and blue striped, long sleeved, dress. She has her hair done up, with a red ribbon, and is siting in a chair. Unfortunately, I do not know the title of the second one. If you have any information on these, or if you know where I can obtain some information...I would greatly appreciate you emailing me. Thanks.
