Remedios Oil Painting
I have an oil painting on canvas this painting is a moonlight scene over a small lake or river surrounded by some trees and a few birds [look like gulls] and the painting is signed in the bottom left hand corner Romedios, The painting size is approx two foot by eighteen inches.
did anyone ever hear of a iconograph of remedios done in the mid 70s. this painting is 36x24 with precolumbian art, fruit slices on the arm, fruit trees in the background, she appears to be fending off the advances of a man standing behind her. the name of remedios is in the left hand corner apx. 2" from the bottom, the signature is exactly like hers that would be applied to legal papers. the signature is positioned the same as de chirco which she tended to copy when she was in need of money earlier in her life. the frame was made in mexico and the painting was purchased in los angeles in the mid 70's in a shop on alvaro street which was in the center of the latino area. thank you for any help in identifing the painter of this piece.
