Tragic Clown by Tarkay
I purchased this watercolor about 3 years ago but cannot find any information on the internet about it. Park West has it referenced but cannot open any of the pages. Anyone know anything about this watercolor?
I own Normandy Cafe. Bought it at a ParkWest auction about 20 years ago for $250. It's worth whatever someone will pay for it. My guess today, maybe $400.

Serigraphy by Tarkay
I have a #'d serigraphy by Tarkay. It is 40 by 60 framed. I can't find the image on any sights that I've checked. The signature is in the bottom right hand corner of the white area. T with a long squiggly line which is unreadable . I purchased it about 20yrs.ago at an art gallery in Sarnia Ontario, Canada for $700. Did he sign his name this way at the time or did I get taken. I'm wanting to sell it now & would like to know if it is indeed real & if so what the value could be. The image is of a woman sitting alone on a chair. The chair is mostly black & she is in a blue dress with pink flowers on it. She appears to be in deep thought. It is # 125/300. Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello Tarkay fans
Hi. I just stumbled onto this site in checking to make sure a Google search for our web-site is working properly. I would be happy to answer any Tarkay questions that I can for you. For the person asking about pronouncing his name it is Tar-k"I" with a long I and emphasis on the second syllable.
The Lady's Closed Eyes
I heard in order to keep him occupied while in the concentration camp his mother told him stories of tea parties and other social events she attended. So he could imagine it better, she would have him close his eyes. In honor of her the paintings of women have their eyes closed!
You can look under Park West Galleries website for your paintings.
How is Itzchak Tarkay's name pronounced
Did I get lucky
I recently found a small oil painting at an antique store that I purchased for $50. I bought it because I believe it is a Tarkay. I own the serigraph "Confiding", and the images have the same line work and feel. There is also a signature in the lower right that starts with a T. The origanal owner said she bought this piece at an art gallery in Georgia and the artist studied under a great artist in Isreal. Did I buy a Tarkay, or one rfom his understudy.
It looks so real!
The signature and the wc marks, even the extra pastel marks he added at the end of his peice "Maria and Susie" looks textured.. It was left to me by family, I know nothing about it's history except it cost a lot. It's all sealed in back and I don't want to open it. It's framed in a light wood with protective glass. is there any site that tell's you more about the original art & where it might be ?
TARKAY WATERCOLOR VALUES
I BOUGHT SEVERAL TARKAY WATERCOLORS ON A CRUISE SHIP. TODAY, I AM READING THAT THIS COMPANY MAY BE THE SUBJECT OF A FRAUD INVESTIGATION. HOW DO I FIND THE TRUE VALUE OF THESE PAINTINGS?
Hi i am considering purchasing a Tarkay from a neighbor he tells me it is an original there is no number in the front or the back to tell me if it is a possible seriegraph or limited edition. if it is a serigraph does Tarkay usually show the edtioned on the painting front or back?

Tarkay Unspoken Thought 2???
Hello, I was given a piece by Tarkay and I believe it is a Serigraph, signed and numbered in pencil, 39 of 45 of Unspoken Thought 2. However, I am unable to find a sample of that particular piece. Is their anyone who could help me identify it?
Acrylic on Canvas ???
About ten years ago i purchased a Tarkay, entitled 'Marie and Susie' ... at the time, and even up until very recently, i was not aware of the scope of this artist's talents and status in the art world. My piece is lacquered ... or at least that's what i thought ... i've been search the many websites devoted to his works, however, i have not seen anything like what i have ... his signature is in the bottom left, and it is sorta mounted on a 3" black frame (but, it's one continuous piece, not 2 separate pieces) ... the piece measures 42x36 it's very smooth and shiny ... does anyone know if this is what i keep seeing described as 'acrylic on canvas' ??? when i bought it i did not receive a COA and i think i paid somewhere around $300-$400 for it ... i would appreciate any information from anyone who might be familiar with what i have ... thanks :)
i purchased several of his s/n prints about 20 years ago and have enjoyed them alot, i am reading for the 1st time he is ill, can someone bring me up to date on this. thanks steve in st. petersburg florida
Its Tarkay with a 'A' sound
HOW DO YOU SAY HIS NAME
(does it sound like tarkay with an 'A' sound or tarki with a 'I' sound?)

I recently acquired a signed/numbered 189/250 seriagraph by Tarkay. It shows an Arab house, in Jaffa with the sea as the nackground. I cant find any reference to this work. Any information and help would be appreciated.
I have what I think is an original Tarkay 14X10 acrylic, signed on the bottom left. Lady with a blue dress. Has no facial features. Was supposedly first puchased in San Francisco from Tarkay in 1982. Any help n authentication or information.

John L. Chrisman
However, I have oils (5) 2 large and 3 small, AP (2)liths, (1)wc...collected him on and off for years...all mine are hand signed, had the first large oil appraised a couple of years ago, for a lot. I'm also curious, is there a register where all of his work has been included for posterity? Thanks.
Response to John and Barb
Barb.....If you send me a photo of your piece I can help you determine the value. Before you do, take a magnifying glass and look at the signature to see if it looks like it mak have been printed on the image vs. hand signed.
John...Since most of Tarkay's work is sold by ParkWest and privately, you likely won't find a signature expert except at ParkWest. Also, Tarkay doesn't do many oils, his work is primarily in acrylics, wc's, and litho's.
John L. Chrisman
I have several Tarkays, all bought at auction, etc. I have noticed his signature is different on the oils vs. water colors etc. is there a signature expert NYC area. Thanks
Regarding Tarkay's signature..... he has recently begun to sign some pieces in Hebrew and English. Perhaps this is what you have observed?
Is it true that Tarkay Has Lung Cancer?
I have enjoyed Tarkays work for many years. I have met him a few times and have enjoyed his company and most of all his witt.
I was reading here that Tarkay is reported to have lung cancer? Is this really true. He is a wonderful man. Please anyone let me know. Thank you Allen
I recently noticed that the signature on my Tarkay is longer than what I see online. Did Tarkay have different ways of signing?
I was wondering if anyone could give me some history on a Tarkay painting called Eileen? I can't seem to find anything on it. It's quite beautiful...
Yes...his past is dark, indeed. He was a prisoner at Mauthausen Concentration Camp at, I believe, the age of 9 years. I am told that he paints all his female subjects with their eyes closed out of respect and remembrance of those who perished in the Holocaust.
I am saddened to learn of his purported illness. His work will be treasured for decades to come, as indeed it is (by me, at least!) every day when I look at the work I am fortunate enough to have bought. For those of us who have his work, we are gifted by his talent in our lives.
Tarkay has been around a long time. He paints from Israel mainly for ParkWest gallery who has him under contract. His work is outstanding but a little oversold. It's reported he has lung cancer. I have a lot of his work in my personal collection and think it's beautiful. I have three in my home and I enjoy every glance of them.
I just bought a serigraph of Secret Aristocrats with an original signature. What a bright happy painting. I don't know much about the artist, and am interested in learning more.
Maria and Suzie
Just purchased Maria and Suzie and was interested to find Tarkay had experienced a very dark past at an early age, which explains the "liberating" colors used in his work. And the women, for me, are inspirational as I too have had my share of darkness. Their confidence, beauty and sweetness is exactly what I need.
