Rod Goebel In 1966, we moved to Albuquerque from Austin. At a Starving Artist show that year, my wife ans I met Rod. He was interested in current news from his birthtown of Austin. We admired his classic aspen paintings and bought a large piece as our first original art. It has always been a favorite but assumed new stature when we discovered recently that the young man from whom we had bought this piece had developed into an artist of considerable renown.

Rod Goebel I was lucky to participate in a workshop of Rod's in Taos (a few years before his death). His approach to painting was (in my opinion) shamanic. It was not about him, not about success - rather he was channeling creativity. At one point he gave us each a set of three (actual) keys. They represented non-judgement, acceptance, and surrender. I keep these keys as a reminder of that amazing three day workshop, and the many things he shared.
I would love to see a book written about this extroardinary artist/teacher. The looser paintings of his final years I find especially amazing.

Rod Goebel Rod was my friend in junior and senior high school in Albuquerque, NM. Joy and enthusiasm surrounded him, always. His art form was the cartoon, with the Groodle as his hapless and puzzling character. Rod's performance as the drum major of the Sandia High School Band one Friday night in October,1963 will never be forgotten for its surprise, athleticism, and grace. Probably Rod himself was the most surprised of all. He was a good friend, never to be forgotten.

Rod Goebel The spontaneity of the technique coupled with a generous use of color, make Rod Gobel's post impressionists landscapes a stand out in any important collection of contemporary Southwest art. As a charter member of the noted Taos Six Society of Artists, he has participated in many shows featuring that groups' work, and has been included in many important museum collections.
