A F Davis Paintings/Etchings
We live at 491 Main St in Acton, the former Davis home. We are regular's at the library (with 2 young daughters) and it is intersting to have this history of our home. We would certainly be interested in information on AF Davis artwork or learning more about the artist.

insurance appraisal
My family grew up in Acton, and my parents have owned an Arthur Davis painting for many years. The scene is of a small pond with several boys skinny dipping in the foreground. In the background is an apple orchard lit by the setting sun. I think my parents should insure the painting if it is valuable. Does anyone know a ballpark figure for such a painting?

Davis Paintings
I happened across this site as I was looking for some info on MR. Davis. I grew up with Peter Moller in Acton Center in the 40's,50's and 60's living at 46 Nagog Hill right behind his house and an apple's toss from the Davis house. My mother (Patty MacPherson)collected many Davis Paintings and after her death in 1993 they were passed on to her 4 Children. I have two, one of the Center store and one of the back of 46 Nagog Hill from Boardman's Hill. Now, a Parking lot!
I do plan to donate my pitures to the Acton Library after my death as I have not lived in Acton since I was a child and they would have no meaning to my children.

A. F. Davis
I have found a painting while cleaning a old family storage unit signed A.F. Davis. The frame is very old and welled sealed in the back with old barn wood. I haven't opened the back, but how do I know if it's an original? Were prints circulated in the 40's? The scene is a couple ice skating. After some research it appears to be the work of AF Davis, but I'm not sure it's an original or not. Any feedback would be welcomed.

the backyards of Acton center
We grew up in the fifties and sixties in Acton Center and next to Arthur Davis's house in what was the Bemis's. the boardman's on the ther side of it. I looked at his work alot because he painted the Center as well as ther parts of Acton. HE documented the backlife the yards and houses and barns and carriage shed from behind. You could look into his work and see the nineteenth century in his work for many of the outbuildings had not yet fallen in or totally out of use. I guess his most famous painting is of the minutemen on the way past Issac Dvis's to concord. I picked up a print of the Acton Center schoolhouse now regretably many years torn down to build a park. I finally got a small oil of the hill behind our house of a young woman sitting under one of the apple trees. I found years later that it was a thierd of a much longer painting that had many more apple trees in it. My favorite painting of his though was a night scene of Boardman's hill the barn and a huge moon in a partly cloudy sky. Very winslow Homer. One of Davis's last shows was at the Concord Art Association when he was so bent over with osteoporosis that the only way he could lokk at the show was to almost recline in an easy chair. HAving grown up with so many of his paintings in Acton Center one can almost spot them at a distance, and that's how I got the one I have on the trunk of a car at Howland's Antique fleamarket in Amherst. also long gone, for five bucks. Now Acton is a hollow shell of what it was once when we too played football on the commonand used to swim in the front yards after sudden summer showers. But what a life he showed in what really was a village then. Peter

A.F Davis, etching, signed print
The etching I have is a signed print. It was reproduced by Radtke, Lauckner & Company, New York, 1890. There is a small sketch of the head of a person in the border. It's a ladscape with a house and a lake. Signed A. F. Davis

Arthur F. Davis
I am an Acton, Massachusetts resident. My family and I purchased the home where Arthur F. Davis spent his last years. We have been told that he often painted or drew the landscapes on our property and surrounding areas. We are very interested in acquiring some of his artwork. If anyone has information, it would be greatly appreciated.

Arthur F. Davis
I have an etching of a landscape by Arthur F. Davis dated 1889. It is signed in pencil by the artist and has the following Copyright in the upper left corner. Copyright 1889. Jellinek & Jacobson, New York. the landscape is a field scene with a brook and a single tree. I also has a boy fishing in the distance on the right side. Would appreciate any information anyone has on this piece. This was acquired by my Grandmother sometime in the 1940s or 1950s I think. Thanks.

I have recently obtained an original watercolor signed "A.F. Davis (C.S.F.A.) partly after J. G. Brown" and dated "1901". It is difficult to read the signature and accompanying words and letters, but I believe I'm close with the above. It is a watercolor of an elderly New England "Shaker-looking" gentleman husking corn. I assume the "J. G. Brown" refers to John George Brown, British/American realist painter, 1831 - 1913.
