I have two C.Inness oil on cavas woodland scenes, 11x9 inch woodland scenes. I bought unframed from an art student in Bath who was selling them door to door about 25 years ago

Oil Painting signed 'Davis'
I have an oil painting of a mountain landscape, birch trees on bothsides in the forground, a river running through the middle with a white couloured mountain in the center back ground. There is a derelict looking cabin to the right of the river. It is signed Davis in the bottom left hand corner, does anybody know anything about this artist or painting?

My wife has just bought a C Inness painting, well framed, for £1. I notice that the style is VERY similar to I Cafieri. Cafieri is reportedly a group of Chinese painters who are paid to reproduce similar scenes to export. Sad to say I have seen Inness and Cafieri all over the place so perhaps this report is true.

In spite of this I like the work and have a small collection on my walls.

It would appear there may be two artists here. One is Clara Davis Inness (US) and the other Colin Innes (UK). It may be that there are two separate artists who made lansdscape paintings with similar marks for their names. Can anyone clarify?

I have a lovely 61cm x 122cm landscape by this artist. Am trying to retrieve the frame from an ex-flat-mate who got it at a yard sale and was tossing the painting as he only wanted the frame.

The only information that I've been able to find on the internet about C. INNESS is this:

Clara Davis Inness: Born in Illinois on November 2, 1874 in San Francisco.

She studied of 1896 to 1899 to Mark Hopkins Institute of Art (now San Francisco Institute of Art.

She died of cancer in Santa Barbara on Jan 15, 1932,
a spinster.

It is entirely possible that she is listed in the Artists in California 1784-1940 book.

Colin Innes 1909-1982
Born mid-Glamorgan.
Paintings are normally spring/autumn scenes on canvas.
He served in the RAF during the second world war. His paintings are signed C.INNES in forward sloping capital letters on the bottom right hand corner.
Size varies but are generally about 20x16inches.

I have three oils by C. Iness, all of which are landscapes and wonderfully done i might add, any idea of value would be greatly appreciated for insurance purposes, they vary in size from large, 1200 by 400.

I have a 40 x 60 oil painting depicting a track going through a birch tree wood running parallel to a stream. It looks like autumn time due to the colours used. It is signed C Inness on the bottom left and numbered "N207" on the back. Can anyone help with information on this?

C Inness Painting
I recently purchased a oil on board painting signed C. Inness.

It measures roughly 150cm wide by 70cm heigh.

It shows a large creek running into the painting from the bottom left corner, it also has a early settlers hut in it- and what are most definatly Australian gum trees.

There is a soft peach colour used in many parts of the painting.
Was he Clara you refer to an Australian painter?

Or did she visit Australia and either way roughly what areas did she base herself.

C.INNESS oil on canvas painting
We have just moved into our house and found one of these paintings by C. Inness. Its sounds vary much like you have all discussed. House in the bottom left corner surrounded by a lake and a path going beside the lake on the opposite side shaded by big leafy trees on the right hand side. The colours are pink, pale blue and cream coloured. Very beautiful painting. 2" x 1 1/2"
On the back it has the letters JIN and what seems to be the letters bb5 or 005 can any one shed some light on those letters or do they have the same on the back of their paintings? Thanks Cass

From reading discussion board, seems this artist pretty prolific. However, like a couple of those commenting, I haven't heard much about her. A family member of mine bought a C. Inness painting several years ago. Also, a large (about 3.5 feet X 2 feet) oil of an autumn landscape. This purchased by family member at a garage sale for $25.00. I, at first, thought it was a George Inness painting and that we were misreading the signature. However, I have just discovered "Clara" on the net. Did anyone get an approx value of any of her paintings. Her work is quite lovely. The painting (the garage sale people) was given to the elderly lady who sold to my family member when she lived in the northeast area of the United States many years ago and the work looks quite old. However, it and the lovely original frame both are in good shape.

If anyone wishes to pass along any comments re this lady's paintings, I'd appreciate it.

Just bought a 4 x 2 foot painting by C Inness in Ireland. It is a pink forest with a pale greyish-blue lake. Would like to know more about the artist. Any pictures available to get an idea of her work?

ive seen many works by clara inness, typically the larger landscapes sell for under $50 bucks, Ive seen her work selling for as little as $5 bucks. I believe theres a large landscape on ebay by her right now, the person wants $70, overpriced for this artists work, imho. She signs her work c inness

I have 40+ pieces of Clara Inness Paintings
I have been collecting Clara Inness paintings for a while now - have over 40 of them in my collection.

They are all landscapes. From small sizes to real big ones. All are good, but few are really stunning.

I bought them from many diffent countries - aparts from the US, the following countries : Canada, UK, France, Australia.

This means this Clara's work was popular and got sold all over the world.

She did not put a date on any of her works. And there is almost no reference of her on the internet. So most people dont realize that the paintings by her are so old.

I will welcome ANY information regarding this wonderful artist.
