Special Exhibition Raymond Lark, Distinguished African American Artist, will stage a major exhibition of his paintings, master drawings and original prints, in conjunction with the 2002 Winter Games and Black History Month. This landmark exhibition, titled ILLUMINATION: A CULTURAL SPECTRUM, is being sponsored by the UNIVERSITY OF UTAH AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES PROGRAM in Salt Lake City, from February 8th thru 28th, 2002. RECEPTION FOR THE ARTIST: A reception for Raymond Lark, will take place on both Friday and Saturday, February 8th & 9th. Live Jazz Music will be provided nightly by the G. Brown Quintet. GALLERY TALK AND LECTURE ON THE ART OF RAYMOND LARK Held simultaneously with the reception, will be a discussion with the artist by Dr. Wilfred D. Samuels, noted author, educator, and internationally known scholar. Samuels will give a lecture on the sociological and artistic characteristics of Raymond Lark's work. During the 2002 Winter Games, the University of Utah as well as many other establishments which are located on the outskirts of town will be closed, so another venue for Lark's exhibition had to be found, so instead of this exhibit being shown on the campus at the University, it will be staged at the African American Art Center at 161 East Broadway, (300 So.) which is located downtown in the heart of Salt Lakes' business, convention and cultural neighborhood. For additional information about Lark's historical exhibition, reception and lecture, please call (801) 363-0745 or (213) 739-0159.
