I also think that I have an unsigned painting by Casilear. Mine is an oil on convas the same as a watercolor painted by him titled "Lake George". Iam told that the artists would go out to a site and paint a study then later do a large one in oil. Information to confirm this would be greatly appreciated.

I am interested in this artist as I have a painting that MAY be his.
This is an oil that depicts a lake, mountain scene, it is in the traditional 'Hudson River School'style.
I have had the canvas looked at and the date given wa approx100 years +, and the frame is definately American wood. In the lower left hand corner in red are the initials J C.
Is there any way to know if John Casilear signed this way?
I would appreciate anyone helping me to find out if my painting is an original John Casilear.
I purchased this painting 2 years ago through an auction housi in Australia because I liked the image. One day 6 months latter I was browsing thro art books and came across the luminists of the Hudson River School and thought this painting of mine looked to be of the same style/type.Reseaching further I came across the name and works of John Casilear and felt that this was poosibly one of his works OR done by some one else in the same style.
Help would be appreciated.
