A Great Teacher I was fortunate to have had Mr. Riddle as my Ceramics instructor at Los Angeles High School in 1969. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always played jazz in the classroom. It was the "coolest" classroom in the school. He wrote clerihews in everyone's yearbook! What a wonderfully creative man. He is one of the reasons why I am a high school instructor today. I will never forget him.

A Great Artist I really love John Riddle's art, but I am a little biased being his son. To correct the post below, John Riddle's wife is Carmen Riddle and she still lives in Atlanta.
And by the way, I was born at the time Dad was painting the murals on that Church in Atlanta. (Shrine of the Black Madonna).

My Biggest Influence I googled John and came across this site, learning of his passing by accident. I was a student at Los Angeles High School during the late 1960's and John Riddle was my ceramics teacher. His life philosophy became the biggest inspiration for me as a young artist. He was kind, gentle, monumentally talented and had endless patience for his students and a true interest in their lives. After I graduated I had the honor of being an assistant teacher to him in one of his ceramics classes. He occasionally stopped by our family's home for a cup of coffee and conversation. I will never forget this man who made me feel that I had a vehicle to express my own feelings and perspectives on life through my art.

A Great Artist John was a great artist who expressed African heritage. I met him back in 1975 when he was painting mural at a church in Atlanta. They were outstanding masterpieces. He had a wonderful family. They remember me as the musician at that church.
