honor Mr. Calvert was the most inspirational and finest teacher I ever had. He was also a very good friend. I have several of his paintings. I became a school Suerintendent and often referenced Mr. Calvert as a teacher to be emulated!!!

Ambassador of the Arts I was fortunate enough to watch George paint in my high school art room...often...and long before there were artists-in-residence. He was a prolific painter...and a gifted artist/art instructor. George was appointed the first Ambassador of the Arts by Oklahoma Governor Dewey Bartlett. P. Welch, a lifelong friend, purchased his estate...and generously donated his paintings to universities and public buildings throughout the Midwest.

George Calvert, the teacher... I met this interesting man in college. He inspired me to paint like no other did. He always seemed giddy and happy while holding a brush. It was contagious. I thank George for his inspiration and his passion for painting. I now am a university art professor. I hope to inspire like he did.
