Recently purchased print "Grand Canyon at Hermit Rim" I recently purchased a print of the "Grand Canyon at Hermit Rim" with the Moran signature in the lower left corner. It has a small plaque at bottom center of the frame with the wording "The Grand Canyon traveled by the Santa Fe Railroad. From a painting by Thomas Moran". It is approximately 28 by 36 with what appears to be an original frame. I am curious to know about its value and any other pertinent details you may have. I am particularly curious because my parents, now deceased, purchased the Moran home in Santa Barbara and knew nothing about him.
Thank you,
Thomas Watson

Thomas Moran painting of Venice? I was given by my grandmother a beautiful painting by Thomas Moran- unfortunately I re-framed it but still love the image. It appears to be a watercolor- I have been on line and have seen things with similar setting- but not the same canal-buildings. Yes, his trade mark signature is there, that is how I found out about him. I peeks through a loop and did not see any dots from ink print? Is there another way to tell what this is?

The Grand Canyon, Thomas Moran I have an oil painting 22x31 signed Moran 1913. It looks like a T on top of the M. On the back is a paper tag that reads Thomas Gilcrease Institute of America. Tulsa, Oklahoma. It has a stamp on the wood that says Hand Made especially for Gilcrease Museum. I assume this oil painting is a recent reproduction but was wondering why they would allow someone to sign and date the painting. Any information you can give me would be appreciated. Thank You

"Weathered Oaks" I read Denise's description (3/31/2007) of a print she has by Thomas Moran dated 1902. My print only has Moran's distinctive signature and 1902 in the lower left hand corner. I would love to know the name of my print and any other information on it anyone can give me.

Thomas Moran unidentifiable print Several years ago I bought a large framed print and was told it was by Thomas Moran and told the subject was Monterey. After much research I have determined the following: It is not an available print. It is not the Point Lobos painting. It is not the Monterey Coast painting which is also known as The Pacific at Monterey. It was printed on museum quality paper around 1972 by the New York Graphic Society which does not archive its prints. It was painted in 1919. It resembles the Point Lobos location with a calm sea. I mailed photos of it to a professor at the University of Iowa who seemed to be a Thomas Moran expert and received no answer. My assumption is that this painting is privately owned and no prints of it are to be had. I would love to know more.

Thomas Moran I found a Thomas Moran print behind a picture that I really only wanted the frame. The print is of trees in a forest...it is mostly in greens and it's a print of tall trees with just most of the base/trunks showing....it looks like the view is at ground level looking into the forest. I just wondered if there was a name for this print... it also has '17' by his name at the bottom. I haven't been able to find out any information on it at all. It also looks like an older print, the paper is heavier and darker on the backside...any idea on the age of the print? Thanks for any information that you may have.

Thomas Moran I recently acquired a painting signed T. Moran /96. The painting is a landscape, located along a river, looking up at a mountain. I'm in doubt that it's real, I do not know reproduction procedures for fine art before 1959 (earliest photograph I have found of the painting). I cannot locate a copy of this painting online anywhere. It is 28"x22" and 'glued' to a piece of thin cardboard (which makes me doubt it's authenticity), but there is a texture of brush strokes & canvas under the brush strokes on it's entirety. It has been stapled into place on a plain wooden frame & there's tape marks on the back of the cardboard (perhaps once holding information about the painting). There are a couple 'stains' on the surface, and I can tell it has aged quite a bit as it has a brown/yellow tinge due to not being stored properly. Any further information/assistance regarding this would be great!

Thomas Moran 1903 Hello, I have what apears to be an old painting or print. I'm no expert!!! The face of the painting has what apears to be swirl marks. Can't tell if it's paint or the type of paper the print was made with. It's in an old frame with gold like fassets in the corners where the 45[%] corners come together. Each one says LAMBERT. The picture itself on the lower right corner says MORAN 1903. The 1903 is underlined and the M on MORAN has a different design to it. On the back of the picture it says No. 512 Passing Shower in Yellowstone I have pictures if you would like to see them, just let me know. I'm looking for any info you can give me on this picture.....age, value, posible history, ect. Any help and info you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again Dwayne

Thomas Moran, The Golden West. I purchased a print at a auction and have been trying to find any information about it. i can read the Name and date in the lower right corner, Moran with a Y through the M the N.A after that and 1899. the copy right information was poorly printed but the number is 1010, In the lower middle of the print it says, 1103 The Golden West. The print is of indians on horseback walking around a lake towards the mountains. I would greatly appreciate any information on this print.

thomas moran forgotten print? I have just discovered in my possession what I beleive to be a print done by Thomas Moran. The name of the print is 'Weathered Oaks', done in 1902. In the right lower hand corner it has "Corp. The Knapd Co., Inc. NY. It is on a piece of cardboard about 1/16" thick. It has a faux frame around it but the picture itself is dimpled. It is approximately 12" x 15 1/2". The real frame is about 18" x 22" and is black, wooden and carved with what appears to be leaves and pailzies.
One of the surprising things about this is that this print had a hand painted photograph of a baby behind it. On the back it has a stamp that says 'Alfred Thurtell' and then a symbol of a palate and paintbrush.
Just for fun, can anyone tell me anything about either one of these pieces? I can't seem to find this particular print online. The signature on this print is his. Many thanks

T.S. MORAN vs. Thomas Moran 15 yrs ago I acquired two watercolors signed TS Moran. One has mountains and water and what seem to be staemboats. The other is a park in what may be NY. A couple of skyscrapers. They are very likely early 1900's. I believe there may have been a lesser known artist than "the" Thomas Moran, by this name but am hitting a wall. Any help?

Thomas Moran Grand Canyon 1912 I recently purchased at an estate sale a painting or chromolithograph, can't tell which,in old frame. It is dedicated "To my friend Mr. Ford Harvey 1912" and it is signed by Thomas Moran, with the "Y" in the middle of the M. I have recently learned the Y stands for "Yellowstone," and I think the correct name is the Fred Harvey of Grand Canyon fame. It looks a lot like a picture I have seen for Grand Canyon 1912 but there are some differences, but from the same viewpoint. I would like to know more about lithographs of this type and if these were produced depicting any of T. Moran works.

Thomas Moran's non-Venetian Italian works. Although Thomas Moran's Turneresque paintings of the Venetian Lagoon are well-known and well- loved, he also painted many other Italian scenes and subjects during his numerous trips to Italy.
I am seeking information on these non-Venetian Italian works by the artist. I am particularly interested in works from his first two trips to Italy--the first of these trips having taken place in 1867.

Thos Moran Painting for Calendar Sometime in the 1920's or slightly earlier, A Moran painting was included as one of the prints used for a calendar for an automobile company. I believe it was the Indianapolis Automobile Company but not sure about that. Any information would be very welcome as we are trying to document the painting's history.
