personal painting
I am in one of Roy Kerswill's paintings. I don't remember the name but it is of a group of pioneers about to head west. The leader is consulting a mountain man . I my wife and her 2 aunts, uncle, niece and grandmother are in the picture. It was done from photographs Roy took of us at his former house here in Jackson Wyoming many years ago.
The painting stayed in my exwifes family when we separated many years ago. Does anyone know of a painting like this?
Thanks!

My Uncle Roy Kerswill
Hi Donna: Uncle Roy was such a prolific painter that I really don't know a lot about specific paintings unless they are ones that were in the public eye, so to speak. I wish I had contact information for you to try and find out more information but I have lost track of his beloved wife Betty since she remarried after Uncle Roy's death, otherwise I'd see if there was some way to get you connected with someone who was much more connected :-) to Roy than I was. You might Google some galleries that represent his work and ask them for some help. Sorry I couldn't help more.

PHIL Kerswill (My father - Norman - was Roy's younger brother)

Kerswill Children?
Hi: This is directed to Phil Kerswill. I worked in Teton Village the winter of 1977-78. A woman I worked with had many of Roy Kerswill's paintings. My ex, loaned her and husband some money. In exchange, she repayed with a painting. I have not found a reference to this painting or the owner in my research of Mr. Kerswill. It is very beautiful and any information about that time and place would be appreciated. Thank you for appearing on the discussion board!
Donna

Kerswill painting of lake
I purchased a painting from an art gallery here in Austin, TX in the early 80's. It is of a lake with rocky shore, trees in the near background, and show-covered mountains in the background. Can anyone tell me anything about this painting? It has the line ghrough the ovoid I in the signature. The art gallery folks thought the scene was Jenny Lake.
Thanks for any info.
Cindy

Roy Kerswill's Nephew
Hi: I'm Roy Kerswill's nephew and I was probably the closest to him out of all his blood nephews/nieces. I grew up spending weeks with Uncle Roy in Teton Village, climbing with him in the Tetons, paddling the lakes in GTNP and hiking with him all over "Jackson's Hole." Prior to that he had his studio and gallery in Georgetown, Colorado. I live in the Denver area and always have since my folks immigrated over here from England in 1958 after Uncle Roy's swooning of how wonderful America (Denver in particular) was when he lived in Denver on Magnolia Steet back in the 50's.

Sharon, I remember when Uncle Roy changed his signature and put the line through the circle dot above the "i" in his signature. He did that when the "ecology" insignia that looked just like that came out at the beginning of the "green" movement. Also, I can tell you Lois that the painting of the Hamm's Man and Bear was one that he was commisioned to do for the Hamm's beer company back in the 70's and they used it for promotional purposes. A real "Hamm's Man" and a "Bear" were live characters they used in their TV advertising campaigns back then.

I don't know everything about my uncle because he was a bit of a recluse from the family and was a VERY independent spirit, but it sure is fun talking about him because I have LOTS of wonderful memories of my times with him including the times I would simply sit there and watch him paint.

Thanks, PHIL Kerswill

Painting my parents bought
I stumbled on this site by accident. My parents bought an original from Roy Kerswill in Colorado in the sixties or seventies. It is of Jackson Lake and I have treasured it because it was one of my dad's favorite possessions. My folks visited with him for a long time and this was the first and only original painting they ever owned. Great to see some of his other work.

Knowing Roy
I had the priviledge of meeting Roy and Betty Kerswill in their home in Jackson, Wy. They were truly great people. I own a framed print "The Sound of Music" and a print on canvas "The New Day".
Roy and Betty were in Elizabethton, TN in 1989 and I had the great pleasure of having dinner with them, also.
