"Crossing the Stream" I have a print from International Gallery that is stamped on the back "Crossing the Stream". It depicts a wagon pulled by oxen crossing a stream. In the wagon are a man and woman (she has on red) and a boy in the back with sacks. On the other side of the river is a woman dressed in blue with a fancy hat on in front of a rowboat. There are cows in the field across the stream and way in the background is a church steeple. This picture I have found on the internet and it is entitled "Crossing the Stream" by Andrew Melrose. My print is numbered #602 from International Gallery. I inherited these prints from my mother in law, the other print is also from International Gallery and it TOO is numbered #602 and entitled "Crossing the Stream" by Andrew Melrose. BUT it is signed C. Hosch or Houch cannot be more specific (hard to read). This scene is of a man with a cart pulling it down a rough red road and it has a load in it. The colors are very dark. It is either late evening or early morning and he appears to be on his way to market or home etc. Can anyone claify what this print is? I would like to hear from Janice or Tiffany. I have the exact print you are describing but mine is stamped on the back "Crossing the STream" and it is signed Andrew Melrose at the bottom.

not titled 'Crossing the Stream' by Andrew Melrose I too have a signed painting as described by Tiffiny 10/25/2005. It is a river scene with a woman in blue on the left bank and an oxen drawn wagon crossing the river towards her. There are cattle in the background and a water mill on the high right bank with a man standing next to it. Any info on the name of this specific piece would be greatly appreciated. I will monitor this site for any information there may be out there. (I am not sure if the painting in my possession is a print or original.)

Tower of London by Andrew Melrose I would be interested in knowing if there are other Melrose paintings of this subject and would like to establish the approximate year of its painting. I judge it to be late 1860s, but it may be later. It is a signed oil on canvass measuring 29 X 40 inches. The original frame was a mid-19th Century French museum frame measuring six inches wide and six inches deep at the outer edge, with scrolls at the four corners and acanthus leaves along some of the edging. The painting features a view of the Tower and surrounding buildings and part of the Thames with both steam and sailing vessels, and appears to be a scene at dawn with the London skyline showing the smoke and soot of the Industrial Revolution hanging over the city. It is my belief that some Melrose paintings were intended to portray the Industrial Revolution in is negative aspects (city soot and smoke, destruction of nature and wildlife) and as such were an early form of commentary on man's destruction of nature and his own environment, but I have not seen enough of Melrose's work to know if this is a valid observation.

Art by Andrew Melrose/Correction The painting I own is not titled 'Crossing the Stream' after viewing the image. It is a river scene with a woman in blue on the left bank and an oxen drawn wagon crossing the river towards her. There are cattle in the background and a water mill on the high right bank with a man standing next to it. Any info on the name of this specific piece would be greatly appreciated. It was also noted to be a part of the Nathaniel Hawthorne collection done approx. 1863. Thank you!
