Millard Sheets I found this site just now, quite by accident. I see both my sister and uncle found it several years ago.
I assume Julia Stephens received a response to her query long ago, but no, Carlton Sheets is no relation to Millard Sheets that I am aware of.

MILLARD SHEETS I have "The Road to the Sea" by Millard Sheets. It does not appear to be a reproduction.
It says "American 1907" Watercolor 21 1/2 x 29 1/2, 1952
It looks like it was signed on the front in pencil - lower right hand corner.
Anyone have an idea how much it would be worth?
I just bought it today at an auction...was in a frame, under glass.......
There is a sticker on the painting on the back says "The Paint Center Inc."- appears that's who framed it?

"Horses in Storm" I was looking at the San Francisco art mus. site and saw a rendition of the horses in storm print. I happen tohave the same print, or at least I think it is. Came from a wpa project ( on the frame) but isn't nearly as bright as the San Francisco print. Millard used to do sketching around the Chino hills area, and around that time there were a lot of horses in the Chino area. This area is just south of Pomona area. I had always thought that the pencil marks were a sketch made n pencil with a color wash over it. Is the print on a thin sheet of paper and glued to a board stock, or is the print on the cardboard itself?

Millard Sheets Does Any one know if Millard was Carlton Sheets Father?

Millard Sheets To answer several questions for those who sent requests. 1. Sheets designed most all of the mosaics for Home Savings and they were created in his Claremont studio. The Anaheim murals are definately his. 2. He did not do the sculpture at the Padua Hill theature od Scripps. They were both done by Albert Stewart who lived in Padua Hills and directed the sculpture department at Scripps. 3. Sheets did the paintings for United Airlined calanders for ten years during the 50's and 60's. They are all prints, although some originals are owned by private collectors. Board mounted images could be originals, but not wood mounted ones.
If images of possible Millard Sheets paintings are emailed to me I will do my best to respond.
Best, Tony Sheets

Home Savings (now Washington Mutual) Mural - Anaheim I am currently adding Downtown Anaheim's Art In Public Places program to the City's website. There is a beautiful mosaic mural on a former Home Savings building in our Downtown area. Although I am almost positive that it is a Millard Sheets mural, I need to have someone confirm that it is, and provide any background information on the mural. I would love to give Mr. Sheets credit.

Millard Sheets I was watching an eduacational documentary of tv about artists in WWII and they mentioned Millard Sheets. I know his name, as my father, Paulgrave (Paul) Coates, also studied at Chouinard, at Scripps, lived his life as a water colorist/muralist in the Claremont area at the same time. I know they are contemporaries and beleive we have some of Sheet's work in my mother's Claremont Art Colony days of the '40's-'50's. Would anyone out there have info or stories regarding the art scene, and maybe stories of my father Paul Coates within the context of Millard Sheets?

Millard Sheets I read an article on the Internet stating that Millard Sheets completed a sculpture, Indian Woman, for the Padua Theatre in Claremont. Is it still there? Did he produce other works of sculpture? There is a sculpture at the Margaret Fowler Garden at Scripps College in Claremont. Is there any connection between Sheets and the Fowler Garden?

Millard Sheets Somehow I obtained what appear to be prints of Millard Sheets artwork. I reviewed the Image Gallery but did not see either of them. One is of three individuals and a waterfall with a snowcapped peak in background. The second is of what may be a village type house, with an adult and two children, palm trees, and what appears to be a mission steeple in the background. I am interested in appraisal value and sale. Please email: kmz@brevard.net.
