Small oil paintings by Lever For all collectors and dealers out there, some interesting information. Many smaller oil paintings done by Lever are laid-down. This is because Lever preferred to paint on un-stretched canvas. Most of these un-stretched works were later mounted by the Leonard Clayton Gallery of NYC, which acted as Levers dealer for many years. In fact, upon his death Lever left a large collection of un-stretched canvases. These canvases had been laid on top of each other in a hot barn for so many years that they had become "glued together," and could not be pulled apart without severely damaging the images. All of these works were destroyed following Lever's death.
