Marguerite S Pearson
I have been given a Marguerite Pearson print I believe on masonite. I cannot find anything like it online. A woman in a pale-peachy colored dress or gown with a dark roe of sorts draping on her arms. There is a granfather clock to her left and a bird in a cage on a hook to her right. A window in front of her and she is holding something in her hands. Any info on this would be appreciated. Can't find name of it anywhere.

Painting of a girl in red dress playing the piano in front of a mantle with
I'm desperately looking for a painting or watercolor of a young lady in red dress playing the piano in front of a mantle with other red flowers on it.

There is a large window to right with green long drapes and the mantle that she sits in front of has a picture (possibly of people in 18th century clothes) two candlelabras, table at left w/fruit, and a folding screen with a floral design.

One website I checked mentioned the artist M. Dihel or Dihef ?

It was my Grandmother's and she never remember where the painting came from. My mother said that my Grandmother had it since my mother was a little girl. When my grandmother moved into our home and her things were sold and put in storage it was lost or maybe sold?

I would love any info. Please feel free to e-mail me at Neptune4me@aol.com. Thanks Happy New Year!

Intermezzo by M. Pearson
My request is the same as the previous discussion question. I have a copy of this painting and was wondering what it might be worth. I have thought about taking it to "Antiques Road Show" but that most likely will not happen. All comments are welcome.

Intermezzo M. Pearson
I purchased a painting at a yard sale this past summer. It is a very beautiful painting of a woman sitting at a piano playing. She is wearing a dark violet dress with another woman playing a violin in front of the piano sitting in a chair who is wearing a fancy green dress. They are in front of a fireplace with candle sticks, flowers in a vase, and two smaller vases/votives in between. There is a chair at the piano and an oval picture hanging on the wall to the right of the pianist. My picture is framed in gold and has a gold plaque on the front that says Intermezzo M. Pearson. I didn't take it out of the frame therefore, have not seen any signature of the artist. I have a 98 year old home and the painting fit the decor of the home nicely. I am obviously not an art collector but it caught my eye so I paid a very small amount for it. Once I brought it home and hung it, it became something that increased in value greatly to me. I cherish it. Just today, I became curious and decided to finally look it up. Your comments are welcome.

"Intermezzo"
I inherited an "Intermezzo"
with a signiture in the upper right corner by Marguerite S. Pearson. It is framed in glass and is approximately 25" x 30". It is beautiful. There are no obvious brush strokes and there is no writing on the back of the frame. Does anyone know what year this would have been done in?
Also, would this be a print? I'm assuming so because it is under glass and there are no brush strokes obvious. Thanks.

marguerite pearson paintings
Marguerite Pearson is an ancestor of mine. My mother was antique shopping just last week and found an original painting of hers. This is when she discovered the fact that we had an artist in the family. Her brother, (my uncle) was with her on this antique shopping trip and mentioned that he had another one of Marguerite's paintings in his home and that it was passed down to him from thier grandmother. I am on a quest to find out whatever I can about Marguerite and will fill you all in on the information I gather. I would like to know any information any of you may have about Marguerite and her paintings. The painting that my mother bought at the antique shop last week pictures a woman sitting at a piano bench in the middle of what looks like a den. It is titled "Self-Portrait". My uncle has a picture also titled "Self Portrait" but the woman is sitting on the opposite side of the room but still sitting at a piano bench. What are your pictures of? I would appreciate any feedback. Kim Jeffery

Young Woman At Table With Sea In Background
I have a painting of an attracitve lady sitting at a table, with the sea waters in beackground, very rough and it looks like there may be a storm at sea. The lady is blond and very attractive. She is also wearing a dark blue jacket and a blue blouse. Can't pick out the name of the painter. I know the painting would have to be over 35 years old, because my father picked it up when it fell from a truck in Montreal, Canada.

I have a copywrited reprint by Morris & Bendien, Inc. NY of a Marguerite S. Pearson painting with two women sitting at a tea table in front of the fireplace. Both are wearing dresses witch look to date back to civil war era. One is striped, the other is solid dark blue. They are having tea, but the one seated in dark blue and wearing a teal green hat looks quite solemn. Does anyone know the name of this picture? The paper backing on my frame has been removed and there is no title. Thanks for any help.

Marguerite S. Pearson-The Debutante
Saw several queries about a print of a painting by Marguerite S. Pearson. I also have a framed (with glass) print of a young lady in a blue dress and a seated black woman holding a blue sash. There is a parrot in a cage close by. My picture was purchased in 1939 or 1940 at the former Sanger Harris Department Store (now Foleys) in Dallas, Texas, for a home my father built for his parents in East Texas. On the original brown paper backing of the picture is written in pencil "The Debutante"- and this is what we have always called it. The original Sanger Harris sales sticker gives the price as $17.50. The print has a canvas-like look. The signature "Marguerite S. Pearson" is in the lower right corner. On the lower left is printed "C(opyright) Morris and Bendien Inc N.Y." According to info printed on eBay, "Between 1900 and the 1940's Morris and Bendien made quality art prints available to those who could not otherwise afford art."

Oil Painting by Marguerite Stuber Pearson
A curator in Skaneateles, NY said this was done when Marguerite was in Rockport studying. It has (2) women, one a grey haired seamstress and the other a young lady with light brown hair in an apricot filmy dress wisted with a broad dark sash going down the back and a white laced shawl or collar. I do not know the date or the title of the painting, but it was given to me by my Aunt who lived in Boston, and it has been in the family for years. I would like to find out information on the title, the date. It looks like a study in light.

painting by M. Ditlef
I just bought a painting of a blond lady in a blue dress at the piano, there is a fireplace with a ship and a candlestick on the mantel. The signature in the right hand corner I think is M. Ditlef or M. Dihellit is hard to read. Can you give me any information on it, when it was painted, who is M. Ditlef or M. Dihell. On the back it reads Turner Manufacturing Company. I remember this picture in my grandmothers house in the late 40's. This sounds like the same painting several people have that was painted by Maruerite Pearson, could this be one of hers and maybe she signed it like this.

I knew Marguerite when I was young. I sat for her several times. My great-aunt was her caretaker. Over the years we have had quite a few of her paintings from her later years. I have to say her earlier ones were wonderful. To Cindy Crumb- for some reason I can't email from this site...I know well the organ, fireplace and all. It's a wonderful memory for me.

Need information.
I have a Marguerite Pearson signed (upper right hand corner), orginial, but cannot find the name of the painting. My grandmother left it to me, however no one in the family seems to have any knowledge of when or where she purchased it. the name of the painting is not located on the painting.
It has a woman playing an organ, in an orange dress. The organ has curved legs. She is in front of a fireplace, with a ship on the mantle and two candles on either side of the ship.It is in very good shape with a beautiful carved frame. I hope someone can help me. Thanks.

Marguerite Stuber Pearson
I am presently researching art work for an upcoming book on Marguerite S. Pearson to be published in conjunction with a major retrospective of her work hosted by Rockport Art Association, MA. If anyone has any information or images of original art work that they wish to share for possible inclusion in this book I would be delighted to hear from you.

Marguerite S. Pearson is a fine painter, who overcame a great deal to achieve success in her field, and yet she is often overlooked by the art historians. I hope to redress this situation in the near future. The book and show are planned for the fall of 2009, if all goes according to plan.

Lady playing piano/organ???
I have a Marguerite S. Pearson painting that measures approx. 30" x 28" of a lady dressed in a white dress, perhaps nightgown with an orange duster type robe playing what appears to be a very short piano or oragan or perhaps even a keyboard but I doubt the keyboard. She is playing in front of a fireplace with an old ship and oil lamps on the mantle. It has been in my immediate family for at least 50 years but I don't where it came from before then. It does have her signature in the top right hand corner of the painting. Can anyone give me any information on this painting? Please, any information I can get will be greatly appreciated. My painting appears to be on canvas - it is signed upper left corner and there is a card on the back that says "The Music Room" - however it is unlike the music room paintings I have seen by her. It is a woman is white sitting at a piano with a harp also in the picture - the painting is quite large and framed in wood with gold trim. marguerite s pearson - lady with harp
I myself have a painting of marguerite's and it also has been in my family for 60 plus years my great, great grandmother inquired it when her mother was in a nursing home in washington, she was room mates with her. We have no clue as to it's value and it is also signed in the upper right hand corner. We also took the frame off and found that she had signed the back of the painting as a gift for my great great grandmother. my great aunt of 94 years also has the exact same painting. The painting does not feel like a print though because it feels rough to the touch but smooth in places it's very different from other prints. Any info would be of some help. I do know the original was sold for around 18,000, back in 1999.

Subject: Marguerite S. Pearson Posting Date: Sun, 26 May 2002 14:25:33 +0000 Ms. Gilbert, I am responding to the following message you posted: "Seeking information I have what appears to be a signed painting of a woman playing a harp. It looks like it could be a print of an original painting. Were any of Ms. Pearson's paintings ever made into prints? I would also like to know the name of the painting, date, and its value." I am very curious about this as I too have come into possession of "what appears to be a signed painting" by Marguerite S. Pearson. The subject matter differs. It has a shiny "oil-like" finish, but no apparent brush strokes. It bears Marageruite Pearson's signature in the upper left hand corner. Perhaps it is a poster that was varnished. However, I know that it has been in my family for probably at least 70+ years! That makes me wonder what state-of-the art print-making was like at that time. It is substantially similar to one of her known works. As I am just learning about Ms. Pearson and her works I am very interested in what you have found out about any prints of her works, and what year they may have begun to appear. Thank you. Arthur Pearson Portrait
The Somerville Museum is organizing an exhibition on the history of Somerville's 14 movie theatres. Marguerite Pearson's father, Arthur G. Pearson brought the first movies to Somerville and also owned at least two theatres. We are trying to locate Marguerite's oil portrait of her father, dated 1929. We would appreciate any information as to the present location of this work.

Marguerite Pearson
My sister Susan and I were frequent models for Pearson in her Rockport studio in the 50's and 60's. I believe I was the model for The Piano Player, one of the images archived here. I was in junior high or a freshman at the time. Her mother was alive then as well and always brought in fresh-baked cookies and milk for break-time.

"The Letter" -watercolor?
Could it be possible that "The Letter" by Marguerite Pearson would have been done in watercolor?
