Did Lawson work in Pastel? Anyone have any knowledge of Ernest Lawson working in pastel? I have a large Hudson valley type scene - canoe, campfire, tent simply signed Lawson (somewhat similar to his signature examples) but it is done in pastel. Didn't see any in the examples...

Re: Ernest Lawson Corla Gables My father, Clarence Wooton, met Ernest Lawson in 1939. He was a young artist at that time and the two became good friends. Dad tells that Lawson drank heavily when they were out sketching and would eat peanuts and gargle with clorox so that Mrs. Powell couldn't smell the alcohol on his breath.
It was my dad's thought that Lawson committed suicide. Dad said he left his wallet on the beach and just walked out into the water.
In 1965, Chapellier Gallery in NY had four Lawson paintings for sale.
