Large charcoal portraits I have 2 very large charcoal portraits that my sister & I bought at a garage sale about 10 years ago. They go together, & we have been told that in the early days before photograghs, wealthy couples who were getting ready to be married would commission someone to draw their portraits as a wedding present to each other. The quality & detail is exceptionally good. The artist name is on the front & the couples last name is written on the back. We think the names sound foreign or not from the USA. We had them appraised about 7-8 years ago & were told they were probably worth around $1,500 but were told if we could find something about the family they may be worth much more. The thing is I have looked all over the internet & have not been able to find the family name. Can someone give me any clues to how I would go about this?
