Jackson Pollock We have several paintings that supposedly were painted by Jackson Pollock. I must say the look a lot like his work. Does anyone have a recommendation on how to verify that they were or were not painted by Jackson Pollock?

Pollock crash site Does anyone know the exact location of Pollock's fatal crash in or near Springs, Long Island?

Where Pollock lived in 1930 My father, Harold Lehman was an artist who also happened to be best friends with Pollock in the 1930's when they both attended Manual Arts High School. My dad lived in the same building on 42nd as Pollock's girlfriend. Before my dad passed away, he recalled, “Pollock was always coming around since his girl friend was the landlady’s sister”. I'm trying to track down which building that was... Any chance anyone would know?
Thanks.

Pollock experts anyone? Sounds like there are some good stories here concerning possible Pollock paintings; has anyone made any head-way at all in getting any opinion at all from any experts at all? I seriously doubt it. Silence is their strongest tool. I'd love to hear about any of these proposed Pollocks being advanced in any way since the original posting.

authentication For all those people who have pieces that may be Pollacks and for whom there seems to be no provenance, there are some 1774 chateau lafite bottles of wine that were assumed to have been owned by Thomas jefferson. See the most recent issue of the New Yorker magazine. No wonder Jackson Pollack drank. he must have known that fakes would crop up like weeds in a field. If you can't trace it, it is probably not his. If it is in someone else's estate, what does it have to do with you? signed, a naive art lover (I would hang it and love it.)

Pollock pseudonyms I believe i have a pollock signed with (or to) the name Jos. B. Bishir. It is from 1953. It is not signed with Pollock's name, yet it has signature colors and qualities of Pollocks that are difficult to deny. How am i to know? i would like to verify its authenticity. Any recommendations?

Pollock's style and its followers I've never actually seen a REAL follower of Pollock's style. Though, it would be so interesting to continue and develop any of his methods and techniques. Not imitating (what I most often see!), but working it out! I'm trying to do smth in this field, though I don't consider my art abstract. However, I employ Pollock's dripping technique often as a starting point for my future painting.

Wanted: Jackson Pollock Authentication Expert(s) to authenticate pre-drip J I'm eager to determine whether my signed Pollock is truly authentic. The 16" x 20" oil on board painting is heavily enamlized and was acquired by me from a prominent Santa Barbara estate this last year. I am told that it belonged to a "Charles Pollock" who died in 1991 in S. California. This is not a drip painting but has swirling (almost circular)brush strokes ("occular") with tiny, drip-like paint flecks. A local Chicago restoration expert swears it's a late 30's, early 40's pre-drip painting and that it reveals Pollock's beginning transition towards his all-drip paintings. I'd like a second opinion. I'd appreciate any referrals (or other input) to known expert(s) who could verify this early Pollock. Thank you!

Water Beast, Montecito, etc. Do you mean The Water Bull? This was part of Pollock's 1/14-2/1/1947 One-man show in NY.
When Jackson's family lived in California, they were near Chico, Lassen, Orland (Sacramento Valley) & Riverside (in 1925). I believe the last residence in California was in Los Angeles (1928) so Jackson could attend Manual Arts High School. He moved to NY in September 1930 with two of his brothers.
Suicide? You decide: read Jeffrey Potter's: To A Violent Grave (oral biography of Jackson Pollock). Remember Ruth Kligman only knew Pollock for a few months.
Authenticating: Provenance (history of ownership and/or exhibitions) is key; apparently over Biro's findings.

Could This Be Genuine Pollock? Five years ago I purchased a painting at an antiques market in Washington DC. It appears to be a good imitation of a Pollock drip painting -- it's very impressive. After reading the story about the woman in California who may have discovered an unsigned Pollock, I began to wonder about my painting. It's 31" square, framed, and looks somewhat similar to several of Pollock's drip paintings from the late 40s. It's burgandy, black, yellow, white, and light blue. The size is 31" square. It is unsigned, but on the back there are some numbers and a letter "J." One odd thing about it is that it's painted on pegboard. And it has a wooden frame around it. The dealer who sold it to me made no claims about who did it or where it came from. There is some masking tape on the back that is yellowed and crusty with age. If you have an interest in seeing it, I can email you photos -- maybe you will have some opinion about it -- also any ideas about how to reasearch this / authenticate it are welcomed. Thanks!

Mr. Biro Scientific Art Authentication Bravo! Mr. Biro, I would like a complete set of Vincent van Gogh's finger and thumb prints to be in your possession. Your work does not harm the painting and the scientific process would assist the academics in elimiation of fakes etc. (Wacker fingerprint case.) I am very pleased and excited about the work of Mr. Biro. He is cutting edge for the future of the art community.

Montecito Heights, Los Angeles I live on Montecito Drive in Los Angeles and have been trying to determine if Jackson Pollock lived in our house. Pollock supposedly lived on Montecito Drive for a very brief period of time when he was working at the Southwest Museum on Mt. Washington before moving to New York. Does anyone know the actual address? In addition, if it was not our house, we do have a picture of the other original homes that were torn down and this is possibly the only image that exists of the home he lived in. Thank you!

suicide First, I want to say that Jackson Pollock is my true inspiration. if not for discovering Pollock I would never have become an artist. I don't believe Jackson commintted suicide. I believe it was an accident. I can only imagine the works he would have produced had he lived. His death will always remain a great tragedy for us all.

Pollock I love Jackson Pollock. I have for many years. I admire Ed Harris for doing that movie and doing such a great job. If you haven't yet, read Love Affair by Ruth Kligman. Awesome, beautiful, excellently written.

Pollock: the movie I just watched the video release of Pollock. Interestingly it has a great many parallels with the book by Kurt Vonnegut, Bluebeard. Historically it was the same time frame. I wonder if he was drawing on the lives of people such as Pollack for his work? Anybody else notice this?

San Francisco MOMA and the Anederson Collection The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)is exhibiting "Celebrating Modern Art: The Anderson Collection" until January 15, 2001. You can see Jackson Pollock's Lucifer, 1947, which many regard as the best Pollock in a private collection!
