Warhol gift / Five Paintings Thanks for letting me post here....
This is an interesting one. I was talking with a friend at work, who mentioned to me that his mother was an artist. Apparently she lived in NYC for a while, and had an office there.
He mentioned that "she had about five Andy Warhol paintings that he gave to her and signed them, including her name"... After I pulled myself off the floor, I told him that she should have them looked at by a pro... They sounded quite special...Does anyone have a good contact for someone to handle this type of job? The works are kept in the SE Georgia area...Thanks!!

Value of Photograph of Andy Warhol and Friends Greetings all.....
I have a photograph I would like to try and find the value (if any).
It it of Andy Warhol with 3 or 4 others - one I believe to be Bianca Jagger and another lover, Jon Gould. But, I am not positive or have any idea about the others.
The photo is about 8x10 (I haven't measured), black/white, and is in excellent condition.
The photo is owned by a friend of mine who got it directly from the photographer, Tim Hursley. From my understanding, there are only 3 prints in existence - one by the photographer, the one I have, and the other is in a museum in Texas.
Does anybody have any ideas on how I can find the value of this?
Thanks in advance.... Jennifer

Andy warhol Art Authentication Board Jusrt watched a very interesting documentary on the BBC titled Warhol: Denied. Joe Simon bought a piece of Andy Warhol art for $195,000. But the seemingly capricious Andy Warhol Art Authentication Board deemed it not to be Warhol's work, even though it has been previously authenticated on three seperate occassions by his executors as well as the Warhol foundation president. All of Warhol employees remember the painting well. The Board OKs questionable mass-produced stuff from the Warhol Factory so this seems insane.
The Manhattan-based art historian John Richardson, a friend of Warhol’s, owns several paintings that Warhol gave to him as presents, but says on the program he wouldn’t “dare submit these things to the board for fear of being told they’re not by Andy”. The Authentication Board’s judgments seem so capricious that you wonder if its work isn’t some kind of performance art, a deathbed prank bequeathed by Warhol to make a continuing mockery of the art establishment.
Richardson, in any case, queries the very concept of authenticity in relation to an artist who mass-produced art the way Warhol did — and who did it so shamelessly that he even named his studio The Factory. “He used to do these silk screens,” Richardson explains, “and assistants would come in at night and run off a few copies for themselves. But did that make them any less authentic than the ones they ran off for Andy during the day?”
Not only did Warhol mass- produce art, he often couldn’t be bothered to sign it. So friends stepped in; with surreal consequences. “I’ve heard that Sotheby’s will authenticate an ‘S&H Green Stamp’ poster if it has my forged Andy Warhol signature on it,” says Warhol’s friend and curator of the artists first retrospective, Sam Green. “If somebody else has forged the signature, then it’s not an Andy Warhol.” Sam Green remembers turning down Simon's portrait for his 1965 retrospective and is puzzled by their decision.
So is Paul Morrissey, warhol's manager and film director. He states that Warhol asked him to arrange the trade of Simon's painting for the extension of a loan of video equiptment, which enabled Warhol to become the worlds first video artist.
How can a group of people with no direct connection to Warhol and his work simply ignore the testimony of those who worked closely with the artist? Why such secrecy?

authentication board stamp Hello, Would anyone send me a photo of this stamp? I would like to know what it looks like. If I come across one, I want to know I am looking at the correct stamp. Also, how do they mark the ones they turn down----"denied"? thank you, Walter.

Twenty Five Cats and One Blue Pussy I acquired a print from one of Andy's collections called 25 Cats and One Blue Pussy. The original works were illustrations for his book by the same name. The print (The One Blue Pussy), although signed, appears different in color intensity than ones that I've seen in a print catalogue. Someone metioned that these 1954 prints were painted in water color and some may appear different. Can anyone confirm any of this and perhaps provide any additional history ?

Potted Flower 1957 I have aquired a Warhol picture that looks like the 1957 Potted Flower picture.....except mine is a gold background, not blue as shown on the web. I have also had Brewster & Company certify it as genuine Warhol. Any idea of value or history?

Warhol Media Presentation The Andy Warhol Museum has a new web site and special online project developed with Intel's ArtMuseum.net called One Stop Warhol Shop. Contrary to its name, this is not e-commence, but an interesting streaming media presentation on Warhol and his work.
