John Fery Painting We own a John Fery painting, called "Blackwood Creek, Lake Tahoe. We cannot find a signature. We have the original frame, but have had it cleaned and reframed. It came down to us via Andrew Creely, who lived in Idaho back in the 1900's and probably bought it there. The frame is redwood, the original frame. It hung in Dr. creely's vet hospital in San Francisco until his death 30 years ago. It may have been a payment for vet services--just do not know.

John Fery John Fery Paintings I am seeking to date two paintings owned only by my family only, to date. Biographical information at this site places Fery in New York approximately 1886 -1891. My grandfather Francis Edler was his "room mate" either in New York or Chicago - probably New York City. At this time my grandfather was a traveling salesman or "jobber" from 1883 - 1890 for (Tobaccinist) William DeMuth and Co, 507 Broadway, NYC. When Fery could not pay his portion of the rent, my grandfather received five paintings: one large and four small. Only two of the small (by Fery standards) paintings remain in the family. Both would have been painted before this time (1886-1891)and feature water and sand. Could this be Lake Michigan or what body of water? Provenance would say that these have been in one family for three generations and are greatly appreciated by family where fourth generation awaits possession. Would appreciate any further location in time and place of Frey's whereabouts and his subject matter before 1891 or 1896. My grandfather married in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1896. I have always felt that these could have been wedding presents. My grandfather spent the rest of his life in Chicago, Illinois, as a tobacconist: Francis Edler and Company. The paintings hung in his home until 1929. Many thanks for any response. K.

John Fery Painting I live in a 100 year old home in Wisconsin, near Milwaukee. The home was built by a Ferdinand Kieckhefer as an elegant country home, he called EDGEWOOD. He also owned EDGEWOOD FARMS. We found a wonderful old painting, signed by J. Fery, depicting a collage of Kieckehefers homes in a panoramic way. The painting is about 5' x 12' long. It shows the home just when it was built, so it must have been done about 1900 here when he lived in Wisconsin. Just this morning I decided to check the net for John Fery and was pleasantly surprised to find so much information available. If anyone has any information on this painting, I would welcome hearing about it.

John Fery A huge mural of Glacier National Park by Fery was just acquired at the March 17-19 CM Russell Auction in Great Falls for the CM Russell Art Museum. The value was estimated to be $25,000 but the donor and the actual price was not disclosed. The 5'X18' painting hung in the Many Glacier Hotel since the 1920's.
When Bob Scriver discovered in the '70's that the management of the Glacier Park Hotels was abusing and undervaluing the Fery paintings, he set about acquiring as many as he could and hung them in his Museum of Montana Wildlife where they set off his full-mounts of Montana animals. Bringing them together like this raised everyone's consciousness of their beauty. Unfortunately they were re-dispersed at auction after Scriver's death.
