John J. Young
John J. Young is son of Von Jon Jung of Prussia, from the area of Bonn, Germany, today. His father was an artist/engraver whose works are in the City of Bonn Archives (1998) His works are many, however, of prominence is his work of "A Rememberance of Bonn".
His son, John J. Young immigrated to the United States in the late 1840's.
I believe that the father's work did influence the son's work in J.J. Young's "A Souvenir of Washington" in that both are formatted and stylized in the same way. It was framed and hanging prominently in the Columbia Historical Society's last residence, but now is unframed and in storage in the Washington D C Historical Society's new home, The Carneige Library (2009). This author has seen it in both the above places, both being one in the same. Two other "Souvenir" engravings remain in private collections. There is only one in Washington D.C. of which I aware. This work has not been noted as associated with his railroad survey work. His independent work also included mapping of Washington D.C., (National Archives)as well as having a glass&china shop with an engraving business,(ie.certificates for local D.C. schools) towards the end of his life.
