my peter hurd print
i have a hurd lithograph that is similar to "the late call" but no horse and buggy (an automobile that looks like a '40's or '50's model). it is signed in pencil and i rescued it from a state hospital basement in ohio about 30 years ago. does it sound familiar? is it worth anything?

Tracing the family tree
My Grandfather was also a John Hurd, was born in New York (the Bronx or Brooklyn). He married Margret Fitzgerald. His father, John Hurd had two or three brothers. One names Gene (over 6'), who we believe rode in the circus and was a stunt rider.Gene had a brother who rode with Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders. John had had a number of children, one name Mae Hurd (who painted) and lived in N. Jersey.
Does this ring any bells... any connections with Peter Hurd?

I have a crayonstone lithograph printed by Theodore Cuno that is believed to have been drawn by Peter Hurd. Its title is believed to be "War". The image is of a woman(mother) embracing a young boy(her son) presuming the boy's father(her husband) is not coming home from combat; sad image. Can anyone help me verify artist and title?

On 2-2-06, I asked what had become of the original paintings that used to hang in the headquarters of the now-defunct Amercian Factors LTD headquarters. Answer: the paintings were acquired by Sam A. Cooke of Hawaii.

Peter Hurd lithographs - Water Hole
My husband's great uncle Theodore Cuno did a lot of the printmaking for Peter Hurd. He would bring his limestones with images on them from New Mexico to Philadelphia in a horse wagon for him to print. We have the printing press and many of his lithographs in our collection. You may see the Cuno blind stamp on your print showing Theodore Cuno as the printmaker. I saw that this print sold at auction in Dec 2007 for $657. Theodore Cuno is mentioned in Peter Hurd's book The Lithographs on page 17...a very good book if you have any of his lithographs. I think it is out of print now though...not sure.

Peter Hurd Hawaiian Collection
While cleaning out the attic, I came across 4 Peter Hurd prints/lithographs. They are 4 Hawaiian scenes. Where could I find more info on them? I believe my dad may have brought them back from Hawaii when he served in WWWII. I have researched the web, but found little info.

Fence Rider
I have what I think may be the Fence Rider but I am not sure. The one thing I do know that it is my uncle on his horse, Jack. Peter Hurd and my uncle were friends and I think a lot of his artwork was done on Uncle Earl's ranch. I recognize Uncle Earl and the horse, Jack but that is all I know about it. Unfortunately, Uncle Earl had passed away before I got the print, so I couldn't ask him.

Lanscape Collection, I live in Texas
Recently I had aquired a framed, what seems to be a charcoal/watercolor painting of rolling hills in soft greens and browns. I am unsure of the title, and have done some research but, have not come up with anything conclusive. It is signed in the right hand corner with another persons name under it or, it is for that person? Any advice?

Peter Hurd's Hawaiian Collection
In 1949, for their 100th anniversary, American Factors, Ltd., commissioned Hurd to paint 10 Hawaiian scenes, which were to hang permanently in the Honolulu corporate headquarters as the "American Factors Collection".

The company fell on hard times, was renamed, was broken up, was sold off, etc. What has become of the collection?

Thank you.
