OFF TO THE POTLATCH I have a print (I believe) of Off to the Potlatch. I had purchased it about 10 years ago. I am wondering if this is valuable print or not. I have the pages of March 1933 advertising the painting. Thank you for any help!

sydney laurence I have a most beautiful mountain winter picture 9 1/2 by 7 1/2 within the matt, signed Sydney Laurence in the bottom left. I can see some brush strokes but very smooth in the over all painting. I'm dying to know if it is a print or an original. I took it out of the frame to look at it closer and I do see areas that look raised such as branches. What are odds that it is original, how did he do his reproductions? Thanks so much for any information.

Originals or reproductions? I have 2 (Two) Paintings or reproductions (I don’t know) like Oil Paint canvas lined on board, Both are Aprox. 24” x 29” and signed L.L. by Sydney Lawrence and overall dimension framed aprox. 32” x 37”. Looks old and both the same style frame, was professionally framed by Arizona Picture & Framing Gallery (by half of Tag located on back in one of them) The First One no Titled is a Mountain peak (Mt. McKinley?) with agitate sea base, big rock in the first plan and some waves and seagulls in the middle and as background a clear and phantasmal fog that remark the outlined peaks. The Other One no Titled represent a snowed landscape with a very interesting composition including a vertical arrangement with a very detailed log of three in first plane crossing trough the right third. In the middle from L.L. corner to center right a freeze creek is jumped by a three log like a bridge from middle with direction to the L.R. corner forming an “X” arrangement(under the “bridge” a very hardly perceptible white rabbit is protecting against snow), some three and topographic details in the second plane and the mist background with a very hardly perceptible sun are separately by the top of the sunny mountains as narrow white band crossing complete horizontally the composition. Please contact me if you can help me to know more about my pictures. CGCh.

Cloud Cache I have a painting or reproduction of a painting (can't tell)titled "Cloud Cache". The title is on the left side on the mat and the signature Sydney Laurence on the right side of the mat, both in ink. It is a single mat and there is a line about 1/4 inch from the mat's inside edge surrounding the image. I have scoured the net for this particular image and have not found anything. It is hard to tell if it is an oil sketch or a print. If it is a print, does anyone know if Laurence made prints out of his paintings and, if so, what format? I might have to take it out of it's frame and glass but don't want to. Thanks, PJ

24 x 28 Northern Lights Painting I found a large painting signed in an old original circa 1920s frame. There is no title. It is of the Northern Lights and a cabin. I was told it was more than likely a commisioned reprint for National Bank Of Alaska. However upon researching, I have never seen the original. If it were commisioned...there would be an original? An art dealer told me that I should have it appraised..and the age of the frame confused her. It is very flat with no obvious brush strokes, but I read he painstakingly hid his brushstrokes. Unsure. Any comments are welcomed. I have a pic of it if anyone would like to see it. Thank you. Lilly

I have s.l. painting-title unknown now i was givin this painting by my mother before she passed away. she had lived in anchorage. the painting came with a paper between the the painting and paper backing with the title, author name, etc but I can't find that paper now. It looks to me as the Chucach(sp) mountains n.e. of anchorage with a man tossing wood into a fire.

Sydney Laurence portrait claims are there is a portrait done by S.Laurence of my grandfather Johann "Red" Bartels while he stayed with him(in Tyonek). It's stated it's of Red w/signature pipe out of his mouth.

Sydney Laurence I purchased an old 8x10 print of Laurence's Susitna Trading Post. The print appears to have been retouched by hand. The mat board has the title of Yukon Trading Post and Sydney Laurence Alaska penciled along the lower mat edge. The penciled signature appears to be the same handwriting as Laurence with the distinctive S and L capitals. There is no date on print or mat. Would anyone know whether Laurence signed mats for prints and/or retouched prints? Thanks.

Sydney Laurence oil painting Can anyone tell if the painting I have is an original, reproduction, or print? I have a Sydney Laurence oil painting approx. 23 x 35 signed in lower left "Sydney Laurence" and in the right corner, a copy right symbol with the letter "N". I cannot see what comes after the "N" as it is covered by the frame. The painting is in oil, textured etc. Subject is large ship on stormy sea with mountain in background. I obtained the painting at an Alaskan estate auction. Any help would be much appreciated.

Sydney M Laurence I have 2 oil paintings that my great grandfather brought from Sydney M Laurence when he was in St.Ives,Cornwall. He was short of money and my g.grandfather was a manager in a Bank and helped him out. He was with Julius Olsen, both who painted at the Newlyn School. The first painting is of the harbour in St.Ives with a boat on swirling seas, and the second painting is of moor land with a man carrying a gun and his dog, perhaps hunting ( my favorite) Can anyone tell me if these are valuable? They are very large paintings.
