Where are they now? I used to own three Redmonds purchase 35 years ago from Poulsen Galleries in Pasadena. I wonder where they are now? Who is enjoying them now? 1.) approx. 20" x 24" dark scene of oaks after a rain in Menlo Park (greens, russet, browns)2.) approx. 10" x 11" sunset (greens and golds) 3.) a nocture of Portuguese Bend in So. Ca that is all dark blue but for a sliver of moonlight at the water's horizon It would be fun to have followed their provenance. Thanks, Albert Carey

Early California Art Although I live in St. Louis, MO now, I am a native Angeleno as was my father and his father. I love the California plein air artists because it gives me a picture of what it was like to live in California in my father and grandfather's time. I love Granville Redmond, but I will probably never be able to afford one of his works. I do try to buy less well known artists, especially women, who painted the early California landscape. My father has a Guy Rose coastal that his aunt, Jesse Yarnell Kimball, gave him for his tenth birthday in 1924. I am sure he would rather have had something else at that age but it surely would not be worth the same money today. Jesse Kimball was an admirer of Guy Rose and purchased many of his works in those days. My dad studied cinematography at USC and did some newsreel work after WW II.

Granville Redmond My father, Sidney Morgan Hill and his Aunt, Edna Purviance, (both approximately the same age, worked for Charlie Chaplin. My father, as a cameraman, and Edna as Chaplin's leading lady.
My dad received two paintings from 'Pop' Redmond, during this time. Over the years I learned many things about the studio and the folks who worked there. Being a native Angeleno and a resident of Catalina Island for many years, I'm interested in sharing anecdotes, etc. with anyone interested in Redmond, Chaplin and his films, and the Calif. art scene of that time.
