Robert E. Wood print
I have a "The Tide Flats" print, signed and then signed again at the bottom right hand corner. Can anyone tell me if this would be valuable to anyone. I am going to try and sell it on Ebay. We lived in Lake Arrowhead and the painting was purchased there. My mom passed away several years ago and the painting was left with me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Bob
I was married for 17 years to one of Bob's greatest fans. (Don Andrews) We attended one of Bob's workshops in New Orleans in 1977 (I think) and had a marvelous time. Don and Bob were truly good friends and Bob is very much missed.

I commissioned Bob to do a painting for Don for Christmas in '78. I kept the painting, and Don kept the other one we had purchased years later.

Robert E. Wood - my father
It's wonderful to hear the nice comments about my father. I'm so glad to hear that people are still around who knew him and remember him fondly.

Robert E. Wood
I spent two summers In Green Valley Lake taking a workshop at Robert's studio with many other enthusiastic artists. He was a wonderful teacher, brilliant artist and a very kind and humble man. It was so incredible to watch this man manipulate the colors and brush in his hand. With a twist of his wrist he produced magic on paper. He lectured and did his demos in the morning and we all went out on location in the afternoon. He was so kind with his critiques. I remember a painting I was doing of some houses and his comment to me was, "My painting says, I have windows". That was all I needed to hear!
His wife ,Jane, whom he included in some of his figure paintings was an outstsanding artist also. Her style was quite abstract and she used just the right amount of black as I remember. She welcomed all the student artists into her home and was a fascinating and creative individual.
I bought a large painting from him that he painted just for me because the original one I wanted had sold already. I would have bought more but financially that was out of the question at that time.
I have many pictures that I took of him and his demos during his lectures.
He was truly an inspirational figure.

Preserving His Legacy
A friend of mine is interested in contacting a close relative of Robert Earle Wood, particularly his wife or a child. While we would not want to invade anyone's privacy, the matter has to do with preserving the legacy of probably the most revered California watercolor painter and teacher.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Professor of Art on Robert E Wood
I am a professional artist, and an art professor. I knew Robert E. Wood, and know his paintings well. He was the best watercolor artist of his era. If you have a painting, and you wish more information about it, I can probably help you. Feel free to email me.
There may be a delay in answering as I am painting out of the country frequently.

Robert Earle Wood
I also have inherited a work by Robert E. Wood.It is a striking watercolor in browns with some dark blues of a Victorian home in a setting of tall fir trees and dated 1957. I also would like to know if there is any value. This was given to my mother by friends who knew Wood in Pomona/Claremont, CA.

Robert Woods teacher
I have a friend and his 92 year old mother took classes from Robert Wood in Green Valley Lake. Her name is Jean Adams. Her sons put together a DVD of her 30 years of water color paintings. There are over 300 paintings on the DVD. Many of the paintings are of Green Valley Lake . Many are of old Victorian homes in Rialto and Redlands. Her son John Adams is the Historian at the Rialto Historical Society. I received the DVD yesterday and have already viewed it three times.
Robert must have been a wonderful teacher as Jean Adams water color paintings are the best I have even seen. I am an artist myself and wish I would have known him and been able to take lessons from him. John and Jean own the last remaining orange grove in Rialto.

Robert E. Wood legacy
I too have inherited an original Robert E Wood watercolor and it means a great deal to me. My mom knew Robert and worked for him in Green Valley Lake in the 80's. I greatly regret not taking his workshop as 2 years after his death, I started painting and now I'm a professional artist. His book is an excellent resource. I heard he started a video tape or series - does anyone know how I could find out?
Thanks,
Lynee (Bradley) Sapere

Question about Robert Wood
Does anyone know if the well known Robert E Wood lived and worked in Victoria Canada sometime around the 1960's or was that a different Robert E Wood. If That was someone different does anyone know anything about him. I have an oil Painting called Goldstream signed Robert E Wood dated 1964 who lived around here at that time. Thanks, Paul Peele

Commemorative website
Over the last few years someone, perhaps a former workshop student, had put together a rather extensive Robert E. Wood commemorative website with a wealth of information and numerous examples of Wood's work. Unfortunately, I lost the link to this site when my main computer crashed recently and a Google search does not come up with the site now. As things go in the virtual world, maybe the site no longer exists, which is a pity because it was the best online source of information about Wood after Wood's official website was taken offline following his death.

Robert E. Wood
There is a confusion regarding at least two, maybe three, artists named Robert Wood. Robert W. Wood (1889-1979) was an oil painter who painted the American landscape. He was quite well known and reproductions of his seascapes and landscapes were extremely popular. Of course, the originals are highly prized. He spent the last few decades of his life in California. He was a popular and prolific figure in the Laguna Beach plein air art scene. Robert EARLE Wood, OTOH, was a California watercolorist in the tradition of scene painters like Phil Dykes and Millard Sheets. He did NOT work extensively in oil. His subjects were mainly California scenes, but he also painted many nudes. He was a beloved teacher, and he often took his students to Venice, where he painted big, spendid watercolors of the city. His late work was large in scale and richly colored. He had no hesitation about leaving his underlying pencil or charcoal sketch visible as part of the work. He died in 1999, and he is missed by all who knew him.
