1897 art by j.hoover & sons
When we moved grandmothers old high bed, we found a painting?, hanging on the wall, it is a farm scene with 2 children playing by the waters edge with a small sailboat and 2 men packing in supplies maybe with a horse and cart. In the far left you can see faintly a white church in the background, just wondering if this has any value. It says in the far right hand corner j. hoover & sons, phild'a. tahnk you, katie holcomb

Old Oaken Bucket
We have a lithograph of what we believe to be the Old Oaken Bucket by Jerome Thompson. However in researching it out on the internet, the picture that comes up for the Old Oaken Bucket is not the same as we have. I saw a poster image of the picture we have several years ago in a frame shop. That frame shop no longer exists and I don't know what poster company it was. Do you know anyone I can send a picture of the lithograph to that may be able to help us identify this piece of art.

Litho dated 1867
I recently acquired a litho dated 1867 with the first name Jerome and what I can make out of the last name it starts with "Thom" it is a picture of a young boy and girl at a well getting a drink on a farm. If anyone has any info I would greatly appreciate it, this print is extremely old.

Winter Scene
I am not sure if the painting that I have is a Jerome Thompson or not, but it does bear the "copyright 1897 by J. Hoover & Son , Philad'a" in the lower right corner. It is a winter scene with a man & a woman walking arm in arm past a pond towards a church, and a man & a woman in a horse drawn sleigh heading away from the church.

If anyone recognizes this painting or knows of a place to research it, I would appreciate the help.

Thank you,
Sue

"The passing storm franconia notch"
I have been asked by a friend who thinks she has inherited an oil painting by Jerome Thompson.
The title is "The passing storm at franconia notch"
I have not seen the painting yet.
My friend tells me it is possibly signed by his wife??
Does any one know anything about this painting?
Many Thanks,
Fiona

Jerome Thompson
Alice,
I do have some photos now of the painting. The antique seller said they thought Jerome’s wife was a portrait painter and maybe it says “Mrs.” before the name Jerome, but it was chipped in that area and unreadable.
If that’s true, it would justify the 1888 date.
Do you have any old photos of your Great-Great Grandfather, Bartholomew Howe?

Help!
I have a painting by Jerome Thompson and would like to know more about it. The painting is called Hiawatha's Wooing and is dated 1869. Does that make sence? I would appreciate any help at all. Thanks

To Edward
Mr. Cristman,
You don't know how excited I am by your posting! My name is Alice Howe and I live in South Carver, MA which is right next to Middleborough. I believe that the painting you describe may possibly be a long-lost portrait of my Great-Great Grandfather, Bartholomew Howe. It would be easy to determine due to a simple distingwishing detail - a tear toward the middle of the canvas. The family legend is that after a particularly long evening at the local tavern, Bartholomew staggered home quite inebriated and startled my Great-Great Grandmother, Anna who, thinking that a prowler was in the house, fired a single shot from her ever-present derringer at the figure in her parlor. Thankfully it missed, but pierced the painting hanging over the fireplace!! I would imagine old Bart didn't venture out late after that!
Anyway, if there's a way you could post a picture of your painting, I'll confirm the discovery right away. The last I saw of it, it was being packed away into a moving van as my Grandmother moved with her new husband off to Salt Lake City some thirty years ago. What a joy it would be to see it again!

Jerome Thompson mystery painting
I have have an original Jerome Thompson painting, I think. It’s a life size portrait from the waste up (sitting) with gold pocket watch and chain. It's signed Jerome Thompson 1888 lower left in red.(some chips) The face is painted masterfully. The background and body are less detailed and primarily in blacks.
Only problem is the year is 1888, I think. I don’t want to clean it It’s signed Jerome Thompson in red so it could be a self portrait or some VIP from that time. It seems authentically old, but I don’t believe anything. It has some condition problems, but not bad.
It’s quite big 39"wide X 49" tall with frame. I don’t have a good photograph at the moment, but I will take one and of the signature.
Could someone shed some light on this painting or refer me to someone. It's quite a mystery.

I have a large Jerome Thompson painting of Daily Chores on the Farm. I am interested in the Farmhouse depicted in the painting. I believe it is the same one in The Open Gate and the River Landscape. Where is or was this farmhouse located?

The Old Oaken Bucket
Mr. Gibbs:

I, too, have this same painting. My mother recently gave it to me as a gift. My parents are both very old, and I know she bought it over 50 years ago. I would like to know the value in case it could be of help. I tried your e-mail, but it failed. Please let me know if you have found out any information on this painting. I would truly appreciate it. Thank you.
