John Warner Norton I am very interested in learning everything I can about John Warner Norton. I have recently discovered that he was brought up in the same town I was and in a house I admired greatly and new nothing about when I was there.

john warner norton Norton was a regular summer resident in Saugatuck Michigan where he built a cottage on the grounds of the Ox-Bow Summer School of Painting (exists, as a part of the school of the Art Institute of Chicago)--and was probably among the first of a group of artists to come to Saugatuck in 1898. He was a companion of Thomas Eddy Tallmadge, the Chicago architect, who built a summer cottage nearby. They were an important part of this art colony and the history of Saugatuck. See the Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society book titled "Painting the Town. A History of Art in Saugauck and Douglas. 1997. [[]distrib. by Wayne State Univer. Press] (author, Kit Lane). Photos of his cottage(and interior murals) are included in "Raising the Roof--the Buildings and Architecture of Saugatuck and Douglas" by James Schmiechen. [[]distrib. b y Wanyne State Univ. Press. 2006]
