Painting in Taunton J. Harvey Young painted a large-scale portrait of Rev. Samuel Hopkins Emery for the Old Colony Historical Society in 1900. Rev. Emery was a founding member. The portrait is on display at the museum and is slated for conservation.

Paris Drawing I have a drawing by a James Harvey Young dated June 19th 1868 Paris.I would like to know if this is the same J.H.Young that is being disscussed here.It is a very lovely drawing in graphite of a young girl in a classical manner.Does anyone know if Mr.Young was in Europe at that time. Thanks

James Harvey Young J. Harvey Young summered in Blue Hill, Maine frequently. He was deeded the permanent use of a studio where he had painted at least 6 portraits of members of an extended family there, which indicates to me a fairly strong Maine affiliation. I'm pleased to read that he painted landscapes as well as portraits, as I recently bought back the land where his studio stood and would like to add to my family's collection of his work any landscapes he may have painted while in the area.
