Barbara Latham query Latham and her husband Howard Cook spent c. 7 weeks in the summer of 1934 at Altavista near Spruce Pine, NC, while on his 2nd Guggenheim travel grant. I would guess that she made the drawings for "North Carolina Mountain Woman" at that time. If you would like I could check further, as I am working on an exhibit of some of the drawings he made on that trip. Stephen Goldfarb (Atlanta, GA)

Latham in North Carolina In 1936 Latham's wood engraving "North Carolina Mountain Woman" was included in America Today: A Book of 100 Prints published by American Artists' Congress in New York. Does anyone know where exactly she went in western North Carolina, why she visited there, and who she knew in the area? Are there other Latham prints with North Carolina subjects?
