Mr. Metcalf visits the Battle of Montretout Panorama
NEW YORK TIMES, Friday, September 15,1882,8/5 A New Panorama: The "Panorama of the Battle of Montretout," painted by M.F.Philippoteaux, which is now on exhibition at West 55th street and 7th avenue, is well worth a visit...Many Frenchmen were among the spectators yesterday who are familiar with the scenery in and around Paris, and expressed themselves as being much pleased with the fidelity to the original which the panorama exhibited. Among the visitors were: The Belgian Consul-General, Dr. Hammond; Prof. Albert Smith Bickmore; Mr. Thomas Nast; Mr. Constant Mayer; Mr. Robert Cushing; Mr. Camille Piton; Mr. George R. Hahm; MR. METCALF; Mr. Joseph Gilder; Dr. Auguste Charles Valadier; and Mr. Montague Laurence Marks.

WLM was a great animal lover and from hundreds of signatures I've seen never Leroy. Check Elizabeth DeVeer's book "Sunlight and Shadow".

Le Roy 1896 painting
I have a painting of a dead rabbit and a pigeon hanging upside down it is signed LeRoy 1896. I would love to know something about this artist. I don't know if it is a watercolor or oil painting.

"Le Roy" signed watercolor
I have a watercolor dated and signed LeRoy 1896. Could this be Willard LeRoy Metcalf or some other LeRoy ? The subject is a dead duck and squirrel hanging upside down from a nail.

Desperate to find name of painting and artist
I have a painting oil on canvas of a slave women cooking at a fire place while a white women sits in a chair dressed up with a hat an an umbrella beside the chair. She is looking at the women. There is also a cat eating in the middle of the floor. It is an antique. I cant get a pic of the signiure but it looks like it begins with M. and then there is a W..... I hav a pic

I was wondering if anyone would know if he painted any Maine ocean/farm scenes? I saw one painting at a museum and would like to know more about him and what museums might have some of his work if I were to try to get there! Thanx in advance

I am a bit confused by two of the biographies posted.
Metcalf is described as the son of a blue collar family by owen Gallery and the son of a violinist by Pierce Galleries. Would the respective writers of the biographies, please clarify the point.
