Sessions Painting
I too have two Sessions watercolors 20 x 28 It has the number 37 in right hand corner-they are atleast 45 yrs old.Very hard to tell if print or not-it is on watercolor paper.Does one know the value print or original?Thank you

Sessions Marine watercolor
I have a framed Sessions watercolor,haven't seen an example of it anywhere...I purchased at a rummage sale that had alot of original art work,Grandaughter selling her Grandparents belongings.Couldn't tell if it is a print or original.It is on watercolor paper,it has a pencil mark on the border that says NO.1....it is a very vivid pair of fishing boats with two fishermen on the larger boat,and a barrel with a number 8 on it.It is 23 X 29 1/2 I live in Milwaukee Wisconsin.I would love any information that would help me determine if it is a print.The frame on it was very old ,at lest from the 60's or older.

"Colorado Foothills"
We have an outstanding early watercolor labeled on back "Colorado Foothills" by Sessions. We understand he spent some time in Colorado visiting a relative. The painting is a full sheet (22 x 30) and in excellent shape. We have no idea what it would be worth at auction?

Sessions marine water color
I have a Sessions marine watercolor that has a label on the back. The label reads Gloucester. The number is 10272. I hope someone can tell me something about the painting.

Sessions watercolors
I have 2 Sessions prints of fishing boats tied up at a dock, one has man pouring water over the side. The other has man walking through sand at the left with dock and boats at the right.They are both 17"x23". The signature is in block lettere rising at an angle from left to right in the lower left corner. were given to me by my Aunt, Thelma Daggit who purchased them in Chicago around early 1930s. I have no idea of their value but I certainly enjoy having them hanging in my study!

James Sessions
Are reprints or reproductions of his paintings worth anything or are there too many of them? How were the reproductions done? The 2 I have I am sure are not originals but they are very good quality, they are 17 x 24. What are water color plates and how are they used? Thanks You

I recently purchased a watercolor of three boats. The signature is on the bottom right, SESSIONS 37. Could this be a James Milton Sessions painting?

Grandparents hired James Sessions
My Grandparents knew James Sessions and hired him to have painting done for their office in exchange for sleeping quarters and money. They personally purchased many paintings, over a dozen, that have never been seen by anyone outside our immediate family. My parents were given a painting by Mr Sessions when they were married 52 years ago. We have 2 paintings. One is a beautiful watercolor of boats that are docked with details of the wharf and buildings that is spectactular!! It is 19" by 13.5" We also have what appears to be a beginning painting of Mr Sessions of a beautiful naked woman standing on the bank of a lake. It is of painted showing the ladies back with beautiful long hair and tree branches hanging down around her. Mr Sessions name is painted on a rock beside her feet and the date is 38 (1938). WE believe it is a extremely rare find because we can just barely see the pencil marks where he has outlined the body of the woman. It is very tastefully painted and she has a beautiful body. This painting was in my grandmother's spare bedroom and I admired it since I was a young boy approximately in 1967. It has been kept out of any direct sunlight and has not faded at all!!! It is is perfect condition. Dimensions are 17" by 13.5" in heigt framed. It is in it's original matted conditon which makes it hard to determine the actual dimensions but his classic signature and date are visibile in the bottom left corner. I aquired this painting when my grandmother passed away. They knew Mr Sessions very well and yes he had a drinking problem although this didn't effect his work whatsoever because it is spectactular! Where can we have these painting appraised? Not only do I have 2 originals but my family members have several more originals never seen outside the family. Please reply with any feedback that you may have. We live 2 hours from Chicago. Grandparents lived in Oakpark, Illinois where my mother grew up and knows much about this artist due to his close relationship with her father. My grandfather was in the advertisement business in Chicago and this lead to the meeting of these 2 men. Any feedback would be appreciated.

My Grandparents knew Mr Sessions very well!
I have 2 paintings that are originals that I aquired through my grandparents. They lived in Oakbrook in Chicago, IL and my grandfather was in advertising and hired Mr Sessions for room and board. Mr Sessions painted to pay for the room and board originally and then as time went on my grandparents purchased many of his paintings. Mr Sessions gifted my parents with a painting when they were married 52 years ago. These paintings are in my immediate family and have never been seen outside of the family. There are over a dozen of them in the family never seen before. The 2 that I own are beautiful! One is of a wharf scene with many boats docked with the buildings and scenery and excquisite detail. It is approximately 13.5" by 19". The other painting is much more interesting to me because as a young boy I admired it where it was hung in a spare bedroom in my grandparents house. It was never exposed to direct sunlight and both paintings are in mint condition in the original framing. My favorite and the one that interests me the most appears to be possibly one of his earlier paintings and is of a beautiful woman who is standing naked in a lake, ankle deep, painted from behind and she has very long hair draped over her right shoulder. Her hand is stroking her hair. IT is tastefully done with the outline of one of her breasts showing and all of her backside and her legs. There are tree branches hangings down above her. The rock on the left bottom corner contains the classic signature of Sessions and the year 38 (1938). We believe this to be one of a kind and if you look very closely you can just barely see pencil markings outlining the body of the woman and is Watercolored. Mr Sessions did have a drinking problem at one time but my grandfather recognized his talent and helped him out. The drinking certainly didn't interfere with the beauty of his artwork. The relationship with my grandparents and also my mother and Mr Sessions was very close. Since most of his work was either of seascapes or World War II paintings and sport hunting this makes this painting very special. It is a treasure for sure. If anybody knows how to have this appraised we would appreciate any feedback. We live only 2 hours outside of Chicago and could drive there very easily with the paintings. We would love to share these paintings and stories of Mr Sessions with people who love and appreciate his talent as much as our family does. Any feedback would be appreciated and replied to.

James Sessions Watercolor
I have a beautiful watercolor of a boat in a storm at sea. Session painted it in 1931 and it is 17" by 24". Mine is not named and if there is anyone with more detailed info about Mr. Session I would love to hear from you.

Rounding the Horn
I noticed the same name "Rounding the Horn" attributed to James Sessions. Is it common for an artist to have multiple paintings with the same name? I also have a Diego Rivera painting titled "The Flower Vendor" When I did a search on it, a totally different print came up with that name. What gives?

Sessions and drinking
I recently met an artist who noticed the watercolor in my office and told me that he knew Jim Sessions, in Chiacgo, years ago. He said Sessions had traded much of his art work for liquor at local taverns and you would see his works in many Chicago and New York bars. I never have-has anyone? Does the story ring true? Was Jim Sessions an alcoholic?

2 docked fishing boats
I have an original watercolor dated 1927 by Sessions. There are two anchored fishing boats next to a smaller boat with two men tying up to one of the fishing boats. Could you tell me anything about this painting? I understand it was purchased in 1933 in California Thank you.
