Hyman Bloom
I have admired Hyman's work since I discovered it in Bernard Chaet's book "The Art od Drawing"; my high school text book. I vowed then that i would meety him one day. moving to Boston in 1980 I worked at Child's gallery where i bought an etching of his which came in and then worked as a guard at the Gardner Museum. one day i signed up for extra hours and found myself with Jack Levine and David Sutherland's film crew, making "A Feast of Pure Reason". this led me a year later with Jack's nudge to contact him, and we finally met at the Decordova's premiere of said film. hyman invited m e to lunch, and we have been friends ever since. He has been a mentor and life changing friend for 21 years, and I have now printed etchings for him of those fish which inspired me do many years ago. There is no one who has touched my life as an artist and humanist as profoundly as Hyman Bloom. He is a reverred presence to those who know him and realize his insight and brilliance as an artist and his major contributions to American art, yet he remains a modest soul with a wonderful sense of humor and generous spirit.
