where, when, how? Hi There- I am the art programs coordinator at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in St Paul, Mn. We have two Frishmuth Sculptures- 1. Crest of the Wave, 2. Playdays. The conservatory opened in 1912, I am wondering if ANYONE knows how we may have acquired them? Was there some sort of time period in which her sculptures went on Auction...please forgive me if I don't know the details, I have not read the Sculptured Hyacinths book and we have nothing on record for the purchase. ANY info anyone could provide me would be excellent. Thanks Kelly

"Seated Nude" As a "student" and fan of the sculptor Harriet Frishmuth, I continue research on her life and work. I have discovered some interesting information about the work titled "Seated Nude" sold by Bonhams on 4/11/05. There is an extensive collection of photographs by the artist Nikolas Muray at the George Eastman Museum in Rochester, including a large number of photos of Desha, and also a formal portrait of HWF. Muray was married to HWF's sister Lejay. There is a photo of Desha posed like the sculpture "Seated Nude" and several others. It is a beautiful collection of photos and exciting to see these poses so like the sculptural works.

"Sculptured Hyacinths" Anyone with an interest in the life and work of Harriett Whitney Frishmuth should seek to find a copy of the book titled "Sculptured Hyacinths" by Charles N. Aronson. Mr. Aronson, a collector and patron of HWF, became personally acquainted with the scultor, Ruth, and the dancer/model Desha. The book is a marvelous tribute, with many photos of the artist herself. Harriett visited his home in Arcade, New York, where Mr. Aronson gathered a great collection of her work; and he visited her at her home in Connecticut. I am familiar with Mr. Aronson, although I did not know him personally. As a youth I lived and attended school there, and remember him clearly. Both he and the artist were interesting individuals. If readers of this message have an opportunity to view this book, I assure you it will be well worth your while.
