Fake Dali litho See my earlier comments. (Dali 3 Horses / Horse of Spring). I have recently been told by an art consultant that this is fake art. The real title being Ballet Tristan. The art-gallery/antique "dealer" in Utrecht, Netherlands would not give a lifetime guarantee nor a certificate of authenticity. Obviously.

Dali 3 horses (Horse of Spring?) I have a signed Dali litho (of 300) entitled Horse of Spring (or Ballet of Horses?) It depicts 3 horses heads turning to stone and stairs leading up to a tower. There is an abandoned car in the tree at the top and the sea in the background. Anyone familiar with this piece? What is it called? Thanks.

dali collage Does anyone out there in Daliland have any information concerning collages done by Dali. I have one that depicts a guitar player in front of a glass of soda. The scene reminds me of the old coffe houses with the player making his living by passing the hat. The collage includes cloth, ink, watercolor, paint, laid on board. In the lower right,of this 15x22 work is the inscription "le esperito of California" L.A. U.S.A. no date is given. Comparison of the handwriting and signature compares very well.Any help is needed and appreciated.

Salvador Dali Does Dali have a series called "Kingdom of Gala" I have a pencil signed Two Nudes but I don't think that is the correct name. It looks as though it is in the same vein at the "Kingdom of Gala" The gallery did not mark it correctly when I bought it years ago. Any help would be great. Thank you!

Dali and Prints General statements about Dali prints: 1. Dali signed blank paper for Levine & Levine to satisfy a US Judeges order. He signed the contract in the US, got paid and said it was time to back to Spain. L&L took Dali to court to prevent him from leaving the country until the work for the contract was complete. Judge's compromise was for Dali to sign enough blank paper to satisfy the contract. Levine & Levine can account for every sheet signed. Pics of U.S. Marshalls with Dali signing the paper are in Meredith Etherington-Smith book. 2. Dali never signed blank paper unless ordered to do so by a judge(see above). In his exhaustively researched biography of Dali, author Ian Gibson states without reservation that Dali signing blank paper is a myth. 3. Dali fakes came about because Dali could no longer sign his name and West Coast galleries were making too much money on Dali prints to allow them to stop. So these galleries got together, bought 35mm slides of Dali paintings from museum gift shops and made lithos from the slides, then forged a signature. This creates an easy rule of thumb: If the print is of a Dali painting, the print must be fake. (There are a few exceptions.) 4. Two publishers in particular almost always produced fakes after the real prints. Their flaw is that they did not have all the plates and many that they did have were well worn. A comparison of the image on the print to a photo from a catalogue raisonne will show the differences. In particular, in the 'Portrait of Picasso' fake the plate with the head of Alexander the Great is missing. 4. Open edition prints were sometimes legitimately made after limited edition runs, especially on the small pieces from Schneider, like Don Quixote, El Cid, WAshington, etc, The open edition prints are easy to tell because they contain a Dali signature within the image that was used to cover the hole made when the plate was initially destroyed by drilling holes in it. There is much more to this. The Bottom line is that with a little knowledge, Dali prints are probably the safest on the market to buy for the experienced buyer. They have been scrutinized so much over the past 20 years that market is pretty clean except for the obvious fakes.

Dali and certificates etc. It is with much regret that I must tell you that I have heard the following (Hear say)the following. Mr Dali DID sign many we do not know how many blanks. Sheets meant for printing his work but signed before the work was done. By doing so he lost count. Production over runs became the norm. What was supposed to be 100/100 became 450/100. If you include HS hors series = grease pieces. or HC for the printing house never more than 10[[][%]] of the run. Any thing more than 120/100 is tragic. Original plates not destroyed, signed paper = overruns that have and will be hard to prove. Certificates of authenticity signed by who. Provenance? Even legitimate galleries are duped. So Mr Dali is suspect and so are some of his prints.
So if you have a Dali you must go to the most unblemished most legitimate expert and have a good certificate created as well as a seal attesting the Dali stamped on the back of the print. Then get it notarized. IMHO Art lover.

ID of original print Over 20 yrs. ago I purchased an original Dali print of Don Quixote and Sancho P. with 5 windmills in the distance, a dark cloud upper right and 3 yellow flowers lower right. salvador dali I have just purchased a dali of the divine comedy, purgatory 18, supposedly signed 3 ways, 1st in the right hand corner by Dali in pencil (not colored)secondly by EA, and thirdly on the back of the piece by the person who "commissioned dali". Kissing Tulips with added ink drawing I have a lithograph by Dali titled "Kissing Tulips" numbered 106/350. A friend told me that this print has extra ink work added by Dali (apparently drawn at the signing). The sketch does appear to be "on top"of the print. I've never seen this sketch on any pictures I've seen of Kissing Tulips. The ink drawing is of a long legged flaming giraffe, a horizon line, and 2 converging vertical lines. Any information on this work would be appreciated Thanks

Crypt Designed by Dali Salvador Dali
In Campbell County, Virginia, in a small community called Sherwill, near Concord, there is a monument designed by Dali for his friend and benefactor, Owen Cheatham, founder of Georgia Pacific. Few people know of its existence. Owen, his brother and several other family members are buried there. Does anyone have any additional information on this monument? Could there be a design drawing on file somewhere?

Christ of St. John of the Cross Reply to James Julin – His comment 03/11/2006:
RE: Christ of St. John of the Cross
The original Dali oil “Christ of St. John of the Cross” is at the Glasgow Museum, Scotland. Lee Catterall, “The Great Dali Art Fraud”, Barricade Books, Inc., cc 1992, provides an interesting commentary about the lithographs and cast bas-reliefs. The lithographs are printed on two different types of paper and a second edition on lambskin. Catterall believes these works are not authentic, but who knows. I have the lambskin lithograph and a bronze bas-relief. We enjoy the pieces whatever their authenticity – and the story about how the works came about is very interesting.

Full signature I have been hearing about 10 sets of the complete Devine Comedy series (all 101 paintings)have been found that feature Salvador Dali's full-signature, not just "Dali".
If you have any knowledge about the authenicity-or the fraudulency--of such a set, I would like to hear from you.
Thank you.
