Diego painting Responding to several postings, I have a cubist-type painting of a madonna and child, with a fairly genderless figure where the father would be. "Diego" is printed in the lower left corner. It is oil or acrylic, not a print. What did his signature look like? Help! -Tom

diego rivera different signatures Hi, I have two original paintings signed by Diego, one I got recently and one I have had for probably 20-30 years. The "older" one is cubism and has gold leaf paint.Though purchased years apart and diferent parts of the US, the signatures are a definite match to each other. I believe them to be diego rivera originals but his signature is printed and only diego is used.I know rivera diego sighnedhis pictures differently, but does anyone know if he ever printed his name? The printed name looks like his signed name. There is info on the back of both pictures, but I dont know what it means. Help!

Diego Rivera Print I was given a professionally framed print of Diego Rivera in 1961. The frame resembles bamboo. I'm pretty sure it's a print, signed, dated 1935. Written on the back - huge handwriting in crayon?? "534 - The Flower Vendor". Can you tell me about it - It's value?

Diego Rivera Does anyone know anything about "Lily Vendor" 12x16 date faded..."Pineapple Vendor" 14x10 1935...Man with Lillies 10x14 '44? I have had these three paintings for a really long time. They were left in the attic of my old house and I didn't find them until I moved. They have always appeared to be faded or painted in a subdued hue and appear to be some sort of watercolor on canvas. Does anyone know who to contact in the Central Florida area that may have information on these paintings?

You mentioned having found a Diago Rivera piece from your parents estate. Contact your local Auction house and ask when they have free apraisles. They all offer this service, at least here in New York City, but I think they all do.

Diego Rivera Autograph value My stepfather (87 yrs old) was sorting thru some of his diceased wifes papers and came across a page out of a book that was pen signed by Diego Rivera and perserved with clear wrap... Apparently she had met him in the late 1940's early 1950's and she acquired the signature from him. Any idea of the value?

Could they be authentic? I have 2 pastel paintings one of a little girl and one of a little boy that have been in the family since the early 30's. My Aunt purchased them on a trip to Mexico. I don't remember the story behind their acquisition. They are signed in the lower right with an authentic looking Diego Rivera signature and dated 1934. The only thing that makes me suspect is that they were drawn on what appears to be tracing paper. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Doug

It used to be part of the IBM Corporate Collection, but in 1995, it was sold in a Sotheby's auction.
I've e-mailed Sotheby's, but I thought I'd ask here, as well. Does anyone have any information?
Thank you, Holly

Flower Vendor or Flower Carrier Back in Sept of '06 "Debbie" inquired about a painting she has entitled 'The Flower Vendor', but it is listed as 'The Flower Carrier'. I also have one of these which is signed in the lower left corner and dated 1935 but I believe mine is the 23rd copy of 185. Does anyone know how many copies were made and where the original painting is now? And/or any other pertinent info. Thanks Nancy

The murals are breathtaking...Pancho Villa included in subject.Does anyone know if Diego Rivera painted under another name? This mural definetly has a likeness to Diego Rivera.Any assistance is appreciated Thank You

I can't find this anywhere Hello, I am not a pro and have a relative who has many nice pieces of art. One of my favorites is a Rivera piece titled "Market Place" or "Marketplace". The background is all yellow while the figures and buildings in the forefront are all black. I can't seem to find any info on this and was hoping one of you may be able to shed some light or at least point me in the right direction. Thanks

Rivera Quote Famed Mexican muralist Diego Rivera claimed in his autobiography that during a period in 1904, he and his companions ate "nothing but cadavers" purchased from the local morgue. Rivera was fully aware of the shock value of this tale. Rivera claims that he thought cannibalism a way of the future, remarking "I believe that when man evolves a civilization higher than the mechanized but still primitive one he has now, the eating of human flesh will be sanctioned. For then man will have thrown off all of his superstitions and irrational taboos."
Taken from the wikipedia entry on cannibalism.
Hi
Do you recognise this quote and do you know of it's source?
Many thanks
G.

Diego Rivera I hold two Rivera watercolors: One is titled "Off To Market" and the other is "Cabbage Patch". Both are signed and dated by the artist. Beware of non-authentic "art".

question about painting I have some questions about a Diego Rivera Work. The label on the back indicates that the work is The Flower Vendor, yet I have seen this as The Flower Carrier. The work is signed in the lower left and dated 1935. I can't seem to find any information about the gallery (Livingston Galleries). Any thoughts

Diego Rivera's Signature Does anyone know if Diego Rivera Barrientos signed his work as R. Barrientos perhaps in his earlier work?
05/26/2006 Lee
Diego Rivera prints/paintings I have paintings of the same two titles Rose Hill mentions in her 2004 posting. 'Cabbage Patch' and 'Off to Market'. They were framed by the Roten Gallery of Baltimore (their sticker is on the back) . Paintings singed "Diego Rivera.37"
Mine appear to be watercolor with India ink.
Isn't it odd we have the same two titles? An art appraiser told me Roten used to tour college campuses... anyone know about that? Thanks.

Diego Rivera I just purchased a canvas oil that looks remarkably like a Diego Rivera. It has the signature Cala Lilies and Sunflowers in a large basket. There is one woman with braided pigtails and one man with a hat both kneeling with their backs to the viewer. I took a chance and bought the painting though it is not signed. Even if it isn't authentic it is a gorgeous reproduction. Is there an expert in the San Francisco area that can give me an opinion on the authenticity of this work?
03/03/2006 John
Diego Rivera I have acquired a water color on parchment of a woman sitting with her back to the viewer. It is 12" x 10" The woman's black hair is braided in two pig tails and she is looking at 2 or 3 clumps of Calla Lillies tied with rope and a small basket behind the flowers. It is signed 'Diego Rivera' It is not dated and appears to be in fairly good condition. I am told that experts have disagreed as to its authenticity. I am in Houston, Texas. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can get an opinion on this work?
