I would like to know where the original painting of American Progress is located. Is it in a Museum somewhere? John Gast was married to my friends great aunt and therefoe she is very intersted in finding out more about his works and value of his etchings before and after the great painting American Progress.

Could M.J. Gast be John Gast?
My mother has a western landscape oil painting that she pulled out of a closet. It's signed by M.J. Gast. Artist was obviously trained. Where can I view more of Gast's work to compare with this one?

I would also like to know more about John Gast. I have an oil painting dated 1894 called "Found" with a woman reading on a blanket in the woods and a soldier in the background and 3 dogs who have found the woman.
